My Review

Fantastic Fiction!
Author Becky Wade did an amazing job on this contemporary Christian romance. This is Book 2 in The Bradford Sisters series. Willow Bradford, despite being a supermodel, is a relatable heroine. She's sweet, lovely, and has a strong faith. She's not perfect and she's trying to cope with people who think she is supposed to be so. Hero Corbin Stewart has his own issues. He has a spiritual arc that unfolds beautifully in the story. He has some significant life issues and changes that he must cope with that make this NFL quarterback also more sympathetic.

This story moves forward at a brisk pace with great characterization, wonderful narrator and author's voice, and storyline. Highly recommend! You'll love this novel! I did, and I don't normally read contemporary fiction. Becky Wade has become a new favorite author.

Publisher's Summary

Famously beautiful model Willow Bradford is taking a temporary break from her hectic schedule to work as the innkeeper at her family's small-town bed-and-breakfast. She was enjoying the peace of her hometown, Merryweather, Washington, right up until she came face-to-face with Corbin Stewart, the man she loves to hate. A thoughtful rule-follower by nature, Willow threw caution to the wind four years ago when she entrusted her heart to Corbin - and suffered the consequences when it all fell apart.

Former NFL quarterback Corbin is forceful, charming, and accustomed to getting what he wants...except where Willow Bradford is concerned. Unable to forget her, he's never stopped regretting what happened between them. When their paths unexpectedly cross again, he's determined to make her give him a second chance.

When a decades-old missing persons case finds Corbin and Willow working together, they're forced to confront their past and who they've become - and whether they can risk falling for one another all over again.

A Lovely Listen!

I had two cataract surgeries in May and a good part of the time my resolving vision didn't allow for reading with my eyes. I am not much of a contemporary Christian fiction reader but I was drawn to the descriptions of Becky Wade's Bradford Sisters series. So I listened the the newest audiobook (second in the series) first and then went back and listened to book one, True to You. This is not my fave genre but I loved these books, Becky Wade's voice, her characterization. This Christy-award winning author has the whole shebang!

Becky Wade's Bradford Sisters' series, so far, in my opinion, second, can be read out of order as standalone. I think you might (didn't affect me though) enjoy them more to listen in order. True to you, with heroine Nora Bradford, was a little slower start than her sister Willow's story. Nora is a very different sister from Willow. The narrator, Stephanie Cozart did an amazing job of capturing the author's version of Nora's voice--so much so that I thought it was a different narrator at first!

You'll fall in love with sweet Nora, who is a geeky young woman who needs to own her personal beauty and not compete with her gorgeous sisters. John Lawson is the perfect hero to Nora's heroine. Their chemistry is a joy to behold. You'll be rooting for them both, all the way. And Becky Wade does a great job of working in elements of healing, faith, hope, and coping with end of life issues and disabilities.

I was a psychologist for twenty-five years, and we also have extended family members with bipolar disorder. To have it addressed in a Christian novel was both touching and refreshing. It was handled well. John is suffering from an inherited condition, a disabling condition, (I won't do spoilers here), that I also haven't seen addressed. This blog is all about overcoming -- so I have to say this book would be the best one I've read this year about coping with and overcoming issues.

Also, I have an interest in Christians whose behavior is toxic. "Grandma" in this story borders on toxic but she's handled with so much humor and grace by the heroine and her family that I was snorting out loud with laughter.

Downside of listening to these books -- now I have to wait for the next after the first two. "Because of You" is a novella in The Christmas Heirloom novella collection releasing in 2018. Upside -- there's a novella, a prequel novella also available on audible.com,  Then Came You, that I just downloaded and plan to listen to ASAP! I've definitely become a Becky Wade fan, despite not being a big fan of contemporary fiction. That's how good her writing is.

Highly Recommend -- this needs to be in your audiobook library pronto! Love this collection!

Publisher's Summary

Exciting start of a brand-new series by a contemporary romance fan favorite.

After a devastating heartbreak three years ago, genealogist and historical village owner Nora Bradford has decided that burying her nose in her work and her books is far safer than romance in the here and now.

Unlike Nora, former Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100% focused on the present. But when he's diagnosed with an inherited condition, he's forced to dig into the secrets of his past and his adoption as an infant, enlisting Nora to help him uncover the identity of his birth mother.

The more time they spend together, the more this pair of opposites suspects they just might be a perfect match. However, John's already dating someone and Nora's not sure she's ready to trade her crushes on fictional heroes for the risks of a real relationship. Finding the answers they're seeking will test the limits of their identity, their faith, and their devotion to one another.

Noela reviews HER ONE AND ONLY by Becky Wade

Her One and Only
Bethany House Publishers (April 26, 2016)

5 Stars *****

Ingenious, intriguing, and absolutely irresistible! Becky Wade, surely the Queen of Contemporary romance, delivers a tale that generates sparks on every page within ‘Her One and Only!’ A romance that sizzles, a foreboding mystery that baffles, and a powerful and emotive theme of trusting God—all barely even begin to reveal what an enjoyable tale that the ‘one and only’ author Becky Wade has created.

When the Mustang’s popular football star Gray Fowler continues to receive escalating threats from an unknown source, he is assigned an around the clock security team. The brawny, macho, chauvinistic player scoffs at one of his protection agents—a lithe, attractive woman named Dru. But the former marine who’s also a black belt, surprises him by her determination and persistent immunity to his charms. Gray is drawn to this leather-clad ‘super-hero’ but because of his tormented childhood and his parent’s dismal example, he’s sworn off love and commitment. On the other side of things, feisty and confident Dru has a career-tarnished reputation and is fiercely determined to prove herself on the job. And that means no matter how alluring this big football guy is, she will keep everything strictly business. Plus, she has a client she needs to keep alive from a deadly stalker. Can she achieve both?

The electrifying chemistry between Gray and Dru is testimony to the strength of their personalities. Author Becky Wade has nailed it by creating two intricate and flawed characters that connected perfectly—even while irritating each other! It was pure delight watching Dru and Gray’s resistance to each other crack, and witnessing how they bounced off one another with their combined wit. Behind my smiles, however, hovered an edgy uncertainty surrounding the identity of the stalker. The mystery of the anonymous assailant kept me guessing and in suspense constantly. Complimenting the romance and suspense is a touching, inspirational thread on the heartbreaking struggle and anguish of infertility and miscarriage. And of the very real difficulties to trust God fully for life, for love, and for courage. Highly recommended!

Diana's Review Of A LOVE LIKE OURS By Becky Wade

Bethany House, 2015

Heart "Racing" Romance

In A Love Like Ours, author Becky Wade pens a stirring, captivating novel of hope and heartbreak, that powerfully sweeps the reader's emotions from the horrors of war-torn Iraq to the peaceful paddocks and lush, verdant pastures of Whispering  Creek Horses.

After 20 years, Lyndie James has returned to Texas anxious to see her childhood best friend, Jake Porter. Jake's older brother runs Whispering Creek, a ranch that trains racehorses, and Lyndie applies there for a job exercising thoroughbreds. Jake had served with the Marines in Iraq, and when an IED hit his Humvee and took the lives of three of his friends, he turned cold, bitter, and continued to suffer from anxiety and reoccurring nightmares. The beautiful, sunshiny Lyndie is a woman on a mission...to train and score the role as jockey to the magical stallion, Silver Leaf...and to save Jake from himself and the scars that run much deeper than the one on his handsome face.

Becky Wade, where have you been all my life?! To be quite frank I am not a big fan of horse racing, but when mixed with square dancing and tall, good looking Texans in Stetsons, exquisite toe curling romance, and a dangerous accident on the track, I found my heart racing right alongside the thoroughbreds! What an amazing read! I started out slowly and sped to the finish line late into the night to see how or if everything was going to turn out for Jake and Lyndie. Becky Wade is a powerful writer and this new fan anxiously awaits her next book! With well fleshed out characters and the message of salvation included throughout, A Love Like Ours is definitely one novel you don't want to miss!

Noela Nancarrow reviews A LOVE LIKE OURS by Becky Wade

A Love Like Ours

Riding towards Love, Hope, and Faith

The widespread expanse of the Whispering Creek Ranch accommodates panoramic views stretching across low green hills, a striking lodge-style mansion, white-fenced paddocks and pastures with magnificent horses, grand barns, and a top of the line training track. Sadly, the beauty of this vista belies the solitude and suffering of the ranch’s horse-trainer Jake Porter.

Jake wrestles with PTSD from his time serving in Iraq. Feeling broken in too many ways, he has since lived a mostly isolated life training Thoroughbred racing horses for his brother, never allowing anyone to get close. When his close childhood friend Lyndie returns to Holley, Texas, he strives to keep those barriers erected around him. But Lyndie, never losing the fearless spirit she once possessed as a child, begins to slowly break through his rigid barricades. As much as Jake longs to allow this vibrant and exquisite girl fully into his life, he believes he must keep her safe - on the race track and from himself.

Small in stature though big in personality, the determined Lyndie has managed to obtain a job exercising Jake’s racing horses, and believes that she and her severely disabled sister Mollie can bring about healing to both Jake and his promising stallion Silver Leaf. Now grown up, Lyndie finds herself once again alongside Jake, only now so much has changed. Muscled, lean, and devastatingly handsome despite the scar on his face, Jake’s quiet composure has survived but his tortured eyes beneath the Stetson guards a deeply scarred man. His limited and brusque words silently proclaim his pain. Initially only wanting to help mend him, Lyndie now finds herself falling for this tall, dark, and brooding man. Can Lyndie bring healing, or will her heart become as shattered as his psyche?

Author Becky Wade has sublimely harmonized ‘A Love like Ours’ to impart the heart-rending angst of Jake’s PTSD whilst also delivering a breathlessly intense romance and the perfect measure of humor throughout. The standout for me though, was the convincing portrayal of PTSD in Jake. The chills that passed through him were so tangible I literally felt them race through me also. The characters are written with such gripping sensitivity, the romance so tender yet so passionate, and their faith journeys so inspiring, it is easy to Highly Recommend this book!

How God Ministered to me Through Secondary Infertility by Becky Wade

By Becky Wade

Secondary infertility.  It's a strange term, in a way.  Secondary infertility?  The pairing of those two words brings to mind questions like, 'What does that mean, exactly?'  'How can a person be infertile if she's already had a child or children?'  'Why would anyone who's already had a child worry about fertility?  They're so blessed!'
Here's google's definition of secondary infertility: "Secondary infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant, or to carry a pregnancy to term, following the birth of one or more biological children."  Did you know that estimates suggest that as many as three million women here in the U.S. have secondary fertility problems?
I went through a three year season of secondary infertility from 2005-2008.  Of the six women in the playgroup that I joined when my oldest was a baby, three of us -- half! -- dealt with this issue.  Two of the women tried fertility treatments and IVF but were never able to have a second child.  Their experience, and my own, has given me a soft heart toward women who are dealing with or have dealt with this issue.
In the case of my husband and me, God sent our first baby (a daughter) and our second baby (a son) to us with astonishing speed and ease.  We were extremely fortunate with our family of four, but as time passed I sensed that God had one more child out there for our family.  I even sensed that this child would be a girl.
So off we went, praying and waiting on a third.  I hoped that things would go as smoothly for us, pregnancy-wise, as they'd gone the first two times.
Instead, right off the bat, I had a miscarriage.  Any of you who've experienced miscarriage know how sad it is.  Of all the words I can think of to give miscarriage, 'sad' is the shortest but also the most apt.
Months and months of infertility followed.  Another miscarriage.
What had once come easily to me -- having babies -- had turned mystifyingly difficult.
Across that time in my life, God never took away my desire for a third baby.  Nor did he send a baby.  When you talk to people facing uncertainty, they often say that the 'not knowing' is difficult to bear.  It is!  I had a three year bout of 'not knowing.'  I didn't  know what the outcome would be.  I didn't know how long the journey might last or how much more disappointment we'd have to face.
Here's what I remember most about that season....
God was with me.  In my worst moments of fear and sorrow, God's presense was the nearest and the sweetest that it's perhaps ever been in my entire life.  Those walking through trials have VIP access to the throne of God.
God provided strength.  In Luke 22:42, shortly before the cruxifiction, Jesus prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours."  Then, immediately afterward, in the very next verse, "An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him."  When we're finally able to surrender our future into His hands, God comes (regardless of whether things go the way we want them to or not) and He strengthens.
God had a plan.  We can trust that our God redeems our suffering for a greater good.  Amen? Secondary infertility matured me, humbled me, grew my relationship with Him.  Through it, He showed me that His suffiency is more than a match for my insufficiency.  That His ways are better than my ways.  And that His peace trumps my anxieties.

In April of 2009, I gave birth to a baby girl, thanks only to Him.  Our little #3.  If you could see her today, you'd see a sprite with fly-away hair and endless songs.  She is sunny, creative, social, and hilarious.  She's a joy to us.
I'm well aware that God could have chosen a different outcome for our family.  He could have decided never to give us another biological child.  He could have led us to adoption.  Or down many other avenues.  If He had, He still would have been sovereign.  His will still would have been paramount to my own.  To Him would still be the glory.
It's my prayer today, for those of us walking through valleys and for those of us standing on mountain tops and for those of us somewhere in between, that God would give us fresh assurance that He is with us, that He provides strength, and that He has a plan.

Many thanks to Carrie, Noela, and Diana for inviting me to visit Overcoming With God!  It's an honor to be here.
