When Angels Cry by MaryLu Tyndall - Guest Review by Noela Nancarrow

Thrilling End-Time Drama!

If you were to read only one more book this year, then hands down this should be the one. For when a novel is so powerful and compelling that it has the potential to save and transform lives, all while delivering a fast-paced, unpredictable, suspenseful romance…then it is not a book to be missed!

Set in the not-too-distant future, the world as we know it is drawing near to a dramatic end. Biblically prophesied signs and wonders are shaking the world, and yet many continue to live in deception soaking up the lies of the world. Including the world-famous charismatic pastor Daniel Cain, who preaches a diluted gospel to thousands, unaware his own light has also drastically weakened. Daniel still cares deeply for ex-girlfriend Angelica, but he refuses to listen to her and her friends who illegally witness on the beach. He knows if he is not careful, she could bring his charmed life crashing down. So what will it take to bring him to his knees before the Almighty?

Angelica knows God’s voice well, sees easily into the spiritual realm, and frequently receives visions. But when God tells her to speak warnings to Daniel, the man who broke her heart, she struggles to obey. Angelica has a strong faith, but like many of us she also has flaws and weaknesses. When dire threats and terrifying danger begin to overwhelm Angelica and she is fully tested by her greatest weakness—can she find the faith to overcome?

MaryLu Tyndall’s ‘When Angels Cry’, gripped my spirit and instilled within me a renewed passion to pray for the lost. It was also a much needed reminder of the principalities and powers in high places that persuade and deceive the masses. This battle of light and dark is so very real! The author of this book helps us to see the unseen. End-time scriptures scattered throughout and at the conclusion will have you devouring the Word anew. For all that I thank you, MaryLu Tyndall. This book has an exciting Peretti flavour and a chilling relevancy to current times! Highly recommended!!

This is an enthralling novel fashioned around the historical Battle of Saratoga. Authentic and emotive, this story is creatively paralleled from two different eras—two hundred years apart. So Rare a Gift
In 'So Rare a Gift' you'll be swept up in an unforgettable tale of valor and zeal, secrets and lies, and deadly revenge. One of the Knights, Sir Ronar LePeine is torn between obeying his King and his captivation of the beautiful Falcon. His struggle will soon overturn his world and set him in the midst of an epic spiritual battle. Intrigue and suspense, amazing character chemistry, and a dynamic message make this a must-read!

The fancy Boston lawyer who is new to the town takes on the groom’s case but develops a fondness for the jilted bride. Can anyone win in this case? I had the time of my life reading this witty and fun story by Margaret Brownley!

Noela's OWG Farewell

You’re invited to join us here for an Aussie Barbie (BBQ) to celebrate my four years here on the Overcoming With God blog and to say farewell!

As 2016 draws to a close, so will my time as a reviewer on the wonderful OWG blog. I had been receiving nudges about this from the Lord for over a month and finally He told me to stop procrastinating! He reminded me that good intentions don’t bring us into God’s blessings—only obedience does. The foremost reason I’m leaving my beloved OWG blog is to spend more time with the Lord and in His Word. Health issues have always taken much of my spare time leaving very little after other activities and reading/reviewing, in seeking God. God willing, in the future I hope to share in writing a devotional book or two as that has long been a desire of mine. Perhaps you’ll see me back on OWG as a guest! My last review post will be at the end of the year with my Favorites List of 2016.

I’d like to thank all authors and readers for allowing me to be a part of your lives and for the innumerable blessings you’ve given me by your friendship, kindness, and encouragement! Please find me on Facebook if you’re not already a friend there. A huge thank you also goes to my blog partners, Diane Flowers, Teresa Mathews, Marian Baay, and Bonnie Roof. You girls have become forever friends and have brought so much love and joy into my life. Last but not least, I can’t even begin to fully express my gratitude and thanks to the amazing Carrie Fancett Pagels for listening to God and believing in me those four years ago when she invited me to join her at Overcoming with God. Thank you Carrie for the smiles, friendship, guidance, and prayers!

And now, let’s have some fun at this AUSSIE BBQ! Grab a plate to fill with some snags (sausages), lamb chops, a juicy steak, and don’t forget the charcoaled onion that always gets burnt! Be generous with the tomato sauce (ketchup). Then add your salad from a variety on the table nearby where there’s bound to be a potato salad. Find somewhere to sit and enjoy, and share some memories you have below of my time here, or maybe something you love about Australia!

Kookaburra snagging a snag!

There's bound to be more ants or mozzies than Kookaburra's visiting at the bbq! And these are such beautiful birds, I'm sure we'd allow them to get away with it. :)

Backyard Cricket
Backyard cricket is great fun when you have a few friends over for a barbie! The rules can be lenient but the most important one is that if you hit the ball over the fence, you're out! Here's a pic of Allen taken on Australia Day earlier this year. And no, that's not our national headwear, haha! Have you ever played or watched a game of Cricket?

I hope you've enjoyed this little taste of Australia! God bless!!

Noela reviews THE SILENT SONGBIRD by Melanie Dickerson

An Enchanting Happily Ever After

There’s just something about Melanie Dickerson’s fairy-tale inspired tales that without fail sweeps me far, far away on a fanciful journey of the imagination and heart. Each and every book is a cherished must-read in which I long to visit and lose myself in! The Silent Songbird being no different, flew me back to 1834 to Hertfordshire, England, where an enchanting journey was just beginning..

The beautiful songstress Evangeline is ward to King Richard and spends much of life sequestered away within Berkhamsted Castle for her own protection. When the King demands she marry his advisor, the predatory Earl of Shively, the red-haired beauty escapes the castle’s confines in disguise and joins up with Westley le Wyse and his party of travelers setting out for their village.

Evangeline discovers a whole new world outside the castle—one of freedom and beauty, hardship, and toil. How will the once-sheltered maiden endure the taxing work of a maid in Westley’s village? There are many amusing and tense moments when one wonders if and when all will fall apart.

Having easily fallen for the handsome, kind, and courageous Westley, Evangeline is burdened… for part of her disguise is a pretense to be mute. If her secrets are revealed, not only will she have betrayed Westley with her lies but she might be hauled back to the castle, for who would want to defy the King knowing he was searching for her? Evangeline’s new world however, is about to become even more fraught with dangers as revenge, murder, and a sinister plot comes to light. Will there be songs again in this brave but gentle maiden’s future?

Author Melanie Dickerson knows how to bring to life some of the most enchanting characters, like the sigh-worthy, compassionate hero with sky-blue eyes and the plucky, perceptive, and innocent heroine. Together, the sparks fly in this sweet as molasses, toe-curling, romantic medieval adventure! Faith threads such as trusting in God’s loving-kindness and forgiveness, are deftly interwoven within this beautiful and memorable happily-ever-after tale!

Noela reviews LEFT AT THE ALTAR by Margaret Brownley

Left at the Altar

A unique and 'engaging' romance!

In Left at the Altar, author Margaret Brownley pens a timeless tale of love and forgiveness in the Wild West town of Two-Time Texas where love ran deep and so did disagreements. Set during an era in history before many towns in the West had standardized time-keeping—guaranteed chaos, missed trains, and worse. So be prepared to lose all track of time reading this wonderfully intriguing, fascinating, and engaging romance!

The people of Two-Time, Texas, are fed up with running on different times thanks to a long-running feud between the town’s two stubborn jewelers who each insist on having the correct time. The wedding of their children Tommy Farrell and Meg Lockwood is supposed to bring an end to this division, bringing one time to Two-Time. However, when Tommy stands up Meg at the church, Meg’s father is furious and has a hefty breach-of-promise lawsuit served to Tommy, further dividing the town.

Grant Garrison, a lawyer from Boston, reluctantly decides to stay a while in this cantankerous town to honor his recently deceased sister who loved the place. The first two times Grant meets the jilted bride were under rather embarrassing situations for the poor gal, but something about Meg captivates him. When Grant is hired to defend the groom from the lawsuit and the case comes before the court, he has to remind himself who he is representing when his feelings for the feisty but forlorn Meg grows. What will be the outcome of the case?  Can this town ever find peace and if so, will the cost be worth it? Will Grant and Meg remain lonely or will ‘everything be made beautiful in its time’?

Time and time again in ‘Left at the Altar’, I found myself grinning from the author’s talent in creating entertaining and unique situations, witty prose and dialogue, and quirky but endearing characters. The storyline is effortlessly peppered with fun and fascinating facts on time-keeping in a past era. Twists, turns, swoon-worthy moments…all make this a not-to-be missed failed wedding!
