    1. yes, I wept in parts of Murrays, and laughed in other parts. He knows how to write characters who move you. I related to their star-crossed romance so much, since my husband worked third shift for four years and it seemed we never saw each other. Made our time together even more sweet. you will love it.

Hi Kathleen: I had a difficult time deciding which part of BACHELOR BUTTONS I liked the most, because there were so many: Civil War history, the romance, the Irish immigrant characters, or the snippet of your family history. Whatta combination for success! Thank you for an afternoon of reading enjoyment. God bless.

  15. it's not surprising Kathleen has Irish blood - when I first met her on FB I thought of a song dad/granddad always sung, "I'll take you home again Kathleen" - so when she mentioned the other day family had been in the 69th Regiment, the Irish Brigade, knew she had been named by Irish parents - Kathleen you should tell people here about your family connections to the 69th!

    1. Oh, what a great idea, Murray. My great grandfather on my mother's father's side was also from Manhattan. John Cronin came over on the boat in the late 1840's as a baby as his family escaped the Potato Famine. He enlisted in 1864 as a 15-year-old, and lied about his age to get in. I suspect he did it for the bounty he could collect for his family. He fought in the 69th regiment and was there at the siege of Petersburg and even the signing at Appomattox. He marched in the Grand Review in Washington with the Fighting Irish as a veteran. He went on to march in the St Paddy's Day parade every year in Manhattan with the surviving veterans, and caught his death of pneumonia at that parade. Remarkable life. I can't imagine my son enlisting in a year--he's 14. Even my 22 year old. It's staggering!

    2. Well, MURRAY, I am Irish, too. My William Christy was the son of an Irish immigrant. And supposedly I have Scots-Irish ancestors who were originally Scottish so I dk if that was him or if there are more such as my Hayes ancestors. We always celebrated St. Patrick's Day and my mom was proud of her Irish roots KATHY!!!
