Kathleen Maher writes a sweet story about a violin teacher named William
Lee who is trying to win the hand of the pretty Miss Rose. There is another
man—Dr. Ian McGuiness—who is also hoping to court Miss Rose.
On Saturday, July 11 1863, Dr. McGuiness calls on Miss Rose to ask
her out. Shortly thereafter William also arrives at her doorstep with an invitation
to take her out. Rose respects both men; the doctor would make a good catch
because of his money—she won’t lack for anything if she is to marry him, but
William makes her heart beat faster. With both men on her doorstep she must
choose one of them, but she decides to let the men run a race. The winner shall
take her out that night.
Something happens that causes William to get into trouble and Miss
Rose’s father forbids his daughter to see William again. Will William keep his
distance? And what about Dr. McGuiness—is he the one who will steal her
heart now? Then a family member gets sick and important choices must be made.
Can Dr. McGuiness heal the sick? And is there anything William can do to
help?
Bachelor Buttons is a lovely story
about regular people’s lives during the Civil War. Kathleen Maher has a fresh
and pleasant writing style which makes this story an enjoyable read.

Sounds like a great one to put at the top of your list, SUSAN! Thank you for coming by! Our Marian is sawing logs in Holland right now, so you'll have to settle for me instead of the writer of this lovely review. :)
DeleteSusan, thank you for your kind words! The love story that its based on is even more tragic and romantic. Its based on my great, great grandmother's courtship with a doctor and a violin teacher. She had them run a foot race, that much was true. The winner, the violin player, remained poor through their marriage, and the doctor never married. He sent a ton of coal to her family every winter.
DeleteDiana, You're so funny! When do you sleep? :D You are such a kind and charming hostess. Thank you for everything.
DeleteLOL Diana! I hope you are sleeping now. :)
DeleteOh boy, did I ever sleep! I went to bed a little after 12 am and woke up at 9:15 am. :o 9 hrs! YIKES I must have needed it. :)
DeleteOH you ladies crack me up!
DeleteAnd Kathleen, I just love that it is your history in the love story! Makes it all the more special. Very intriguing about the doctor sending the coal!
DeleteI read one and two of series and would love to read this one too. RHONDA

DeleteAbsolutely love the gorgeous cover. I wish it were a jigsaw puzzle because my daughter is a strings player and really enjoys pictures of stringed instruments. I like to do jigsaws and have done many and framed them. The story seems charming. Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win a great read.

This WOULD make a lovely jigsaw puzzle, Barb! The last puzzle I put together was The Incredible Hulk with my gson. There was nothing lovely about it, and it was quite difficult finding the pieces b/c everything was green. lol Hoping for a win for you for what certainly does seem like a charming read!
DeleteBarbara, that is just way too cool! I love that idea. Thank you for your kind words. How proud you must be of your talented daughter. Funny enough, my son designed the cover for me. Proud Mama moment for both of us! :D
DeleteMARIAN great review of what sounds like a wonderful book! KATHY I can't wait to dive right in to reading it, was going to tonight but I can barely keep my eyes open, hopefully tomorrow. :)

I would ove to win this book. I'm not quite ready to start reading it yet (in the middle of another...) so I will wait for a bit to see if I am lucky enough to win it, before, I purchase it.
