SWEET REVENGE?

Who doesn’t love a beguiling mail-order bride story? But where many brides answer ads in their quest to find happiness and a new life, this bitter bride-to-be seeks only to exact revenge! From bustling New York to the sparse wilderness of Arizona, the prospective bride journeys afar, carrying her cloak of secrecy and resentment—with plans for duplicity and betrayal.

Elizabeth Landvik, once a part of genteel society, has been reduced to sharing a room in a boarding house and toiling for pittance at a sewing factory. Her family’s impoverishment and the subsequent deaths of her parents can be attributed to one man, Lars Forsberg. How it chafes her that he now lives on a sprawling ranch with his son Axel. When she spies a newspaper ad for a mail-order bride for Axel, Elizabeth figures this will be the perfect way to search for her family’s money and give them their comeuppance. Axel Forsberg is initially infuriated his father has arranged a bride for him but warms to the idea especially upon seeing the lovely lady. While his new wife seems to need time to adjust to their union, Axel swiftly loses his heart. But before long, increasingly alarming incidents leave him baffled and troubled.

Mail-Order Revenge is an intriguing and unique take on the mail-order bride theme which makes for a particularly captivating read. This novella is the first I’ve read from Angela K Couch and definitely won’t be the last! Although a novella, it has the fullness of a novel leaving the reader emotionally touched, deeply satisfied, and stirred by the themes of repentance, bitterness and its consequences, and the offering of unmerited grace. A wonderful story!!

  3. Wow, NOELA! Beautiful review! This sounds fantastic with a different twist on an old theme! Love it! Your words "unmerited grace" really stood out to me, because with tears in my eyes just this morning I was thanking God for his unmerited grace towards me. Without it I'd be utterly destroyed and hopeless.
