Free Short Stories on Family Fiction Site -- Vote for Carrie Fancett Pagels's entry!

Did you know you can read 200 FREE short stories online?  Salem publishing and Family Fiction ezine are having a contest called "The Story, 2014" and those who have made it past the first readers have now been listed online, including my story! And I'm super excited about it!!! 50 of these stories will be published in a compendium.

Here is the link to vote for Carrie Fancett Pagels's short story "The Quilting Contest" on the Family Fiction site! http://www.familyfiction.com/short-stories/the-story-2014-contest/the-quilting-contest-2/

My story is a Christian historical romance set in Michigan in 1895! I named a lot of the characters after family and friends. The core message of my story is that while we human might not be fair, God has things under control. Maude (named her after my Grandmother!) tries to do her best friend a favor but is thwarted by the conservative ladies who are running the local quilt show in her township. Although her friend's quilt was runner-up in the state quilting show, the provincial ladies reject the submission based on old-fashioned rules. But God has the situation under control (this is a romance so of course He has sent a handsome hero to assist her!)  I'd like to think David would have brought Maude a lovely bouquet, like the one from my garden, when he went to take her out on their first date! Well, maybe his wouldn't have had ants in it!

Here is the main link to start reading all of the stories: http://www.familyfiction.com/short-stories/the-story-2014-contest/

Giveaway: $10 Barnes and Noble gift card to one of our commenters who checks out the website.  IF you have read and liked my story, come back and let me know!  It is always an encouragement to an author to know what resonated with a reader! How about you--have you had a situation where you were treated unfairly but God blessed you even more than the earthly reward would have been?

It’s All In Your Head

Writing from the Heart While Writing for the Market

How can you fit what’s in your heart with what’s in your market? How can you better understand your audience and what they want? These questions and more will be answered by Laurie Alice Eakes, award winning Christian author who procured fifteen publishing contracts within fifteen months.

Award-winning Christian author Laurie Alice Eakes wanted to be a writer since knowing what one was. Her first book won the National Readers Choice Award in 2007, and her third book was a Carol Award finalist in 2010. Between December of 2008 and January of 2010, she sold thirteen books to Barbour Publishing, Avalon Books, and Baker/Revell, making her total sales fifteen. Recently, she added a novella to that collection, as well as having her first book with Baker/Revell, Lady in the Mist, picked up by Crossings Book Club, and three of her books chosen for large print editions by Thorndike Press. She has been a public speaker for as long as she can remember; thus, only suffers enough stage fright to keep her sharp. In 2002, while in graduate school for writing fiction, she began to teach fiction in person and online. She lives in Texas with her husband, two dogs, and too many cats even for her.

Large Print Books

"I just learned that When the Snow Flies and Lady in the Mist are both coming out in large print. February and May respectively."

BTW, Laurie is completely blind, the only contemporary American author I know of who is.
Why am I excited? Because I wear trifocals and have an eye problem that sometimes causes my vision to get blurry even with the glasses. I am happy for people who have poor vision but will now be able to read Laurie Alice's books. Prayers have been answered. Sometimes I get discouraged when I really want to read a new or newer book and it is not on audio or in large print. The Kindle versions on a computer screen are better, too, but not everything is available in that format.
What about you? Please leave a comment on Laurie Alice's website AND on mine, to be entered for a chance to win a copy of Lady in the Mist, her book releasing later this month. It will be in standard print and if you can read that easily, please thank your Maker today.
Blessings! Carrie

Camy Tang’s Street Team

Look through the majority of writer's blogs or websites to see their links to favorite blogs/sites and you will see one person's sites listed repeatedly – Camy Tang's. There is a reason for that! Her Story Sensei (http://www.storysensei.com/) and Camy's Loft (http://www.camys-loft.com/) sites are among the top Christian Fiction sites on the web. They are my favorites, too. Camy's first three books are described as Asian chick lit or something silly like that, contemporary women's fiction if being more generic, but truly should be considered some of the best character-driven contemporaries out there. BTW, Camy Tang is a very humble person and may be mortified by what I wrote so if you are Camy Tang, STOP READING THIS! When I first read a sample of her writing on the Genesis (a contest) site through American C hristian Fiction Writers, I was floored by her characterization and writing ability. I thought if her writing is an example of what they were looking for then why am I bothering? I have persevered, however. Ms. Tang not only writes books, and blogs about the writing life, serves as coordinator of the Genesis contest, offers phone consultations, and also teaches some awesome classes (you can register via her websites).

Camy recently started a "Street Team" who are supporters, to distribute her lovely bookmarks. There is a contest, too, for the group. If you are one of those persons who utilizes her websites and have not read her books – you need to! Also, consider signing up for her street team, through the following link. See you on the street!
