***Now I know why it's called Seatbelt Suspense***

Since I was first introduced to Brandilyn Collins’ books I have been hooked. So when I found out I had missed this one back in November I was beyond upset and I knew I had to read it ASAP! I am so glad I DID, what a spine-chilling story filled with so many twists and turns you may find yourself holding onto the edge of your seat!

Hannah Shire is a very dutiful daughter taking care of an elderly mother with dementia; she longs for the days when her husband was alive and her mother was well. Wanting to help her mom hold on the present, she takes her to the coast for a weekend getaway. On the return trip she decides on a whim to take the beautiful scenic route home. What a mistake that would be!

Not far into the drive Hannah’s mom calls to her attention an overturned car by the roadside, wanting to be of help, Hannah stops. Finding an elderly man lying a few feet from the car Hannah checks to see if he is ok, concerned when he appears to have difficulty breathing she calls 9-11. While waiting on help to arrive the man uses all of his strength to utter a few words to Hannah and her mom. What he begs them to do and what he secretly slips into Hannah’s pocket will forever change the course of their lives!

Despite being questioned at the scene by the police Hannah doesn't divulge what the man said to her and she is released to go home, once there she discovers a flash drive in her coat pocket. The information she finds on that flash drive doesn't make a lot of sense to her so she calls her daughter to ask her to watch it. What she discovers will have them both terrified and running for their lives not knowing who they can trust to help them!

Brandilyn Collins has once again created a suspense so consuming I found myself torn between reading it in one setting or stopping to get a few hours sleep. Without giving anything away let me say this plot could very well happen here in the US and that made it that much more terrorizing to me!! Thank you Brandilyn for a most enjoyable although heart-stopping read!!

Bibliotherapy: Brandilyn did a wonderful job describing the effect dementia had on Hannah’s mom. I too have a mom that has dementia and it is very heart-rending to witness your loved one lose their grip on reality.

***Thanks to Net Galley and B & H Publishing for providing me a copy of this in exchange for my honest opinion!***

  2. Seatbelt Suspense: Now normally I am not a suspense type of Girl... Loved the Review Teresa ! I may just change my mind with this one ! Dementia and mental illness in story form interests me as I need to write some in the future and seeing how others deal with it and how they write this into their stories will be of great help... but living with someone with it is the best teacher thats for sure. I liked her page and you know i cannot miss a day without you girls, if Diana will keep reminding me to hop on over here... So much to do and so little time !!!
Love you Teresa and you too Diana !

    3. I love all kinds of books except fantasy and sometime Time Travel. I fell in love with BRANDILYN's books when I read OVER THE EDGE...written out of her personal encounter with Lyme's Disease. It is a real thriller.

  6. Hi, ladies!

I have to say that your review is pretty riveting and suspenseful, itself - Teresa! Don't know if my heart could handle the book - but would love to try (LOL)!!

I haven't read any of Brandilyn's books, and would like to become acquainted with her writing style. I have family members starting to have memory problems, and would love to see how the issue of dementia is handled in "Dark Justice". The book written out of her personal experience with Lyme's Disease, "Over the Edge" sounds interesting also - another subject I would like to learn more about.

Thanks for a wonderful review, Teresa! And yes, SO many of the book (and movie) plots we used to think were fantasy, are real-life occurrences now. I "liked" Brandilyn's Facebook page, and I'm thinking her tagline is probably "SEATBELT SUSPENSE" - which is an apt tagline, per your review!!

  10. Hey TERESA, a very vivid and suspenseful review there! I have actually bought a Brandilyn book for my Kindle out of curiosity as I've never read anything of hers, but I haven't been able to read it yet! I'm so addicted to Historical romance as you know, it's hard to pull away... ;) BUT I am curious and tempted I have to say, especially after reading your review! :)

  11. Hmmmm I guess I might just have to visit amazon today and pick up a copy of Over the Edge ! Thank you for letting me know that it is a great book. I seem to stick to the Historical Fiction as well as Amish Fiction and some Suspense/Romance. Blame Katy Lee, as her book " Warning Signs" hooked me back into some suspense !
of course I have verged to join the crew with Marylu Tyndall and am enjoying her Swashbuckling Romance ! Which is interesting since it takes place after the war.... One might never know where to find me as my world has changed so book wise in the past year ! Changed for good !!! Cannot miss a really great book ya know or miss coming over to gab with you girls.
    Hugs
