Audible Reviews of Tracie Peterson's "The Land of Shining Waters" series: The Miner's Lady, The Icecutter's Daughter and The Quarryman's Bride

The Icecutter's Daughter by Tracie Peterson

I listened to all three books in The Land of Shining Water series as audible.com downloads. This trio of stories is set in Minnesota. I loved EVERY ONE of these stories.  The narrator was amazing. Craft was awesome. The story lines, characterization, tension, historical detail and research were all impeccable.  In fact they almost made me want to either a) give up writing altogether because Tracie is so good or b) try to improve to be as good as her!  We'll see how God directs that path!

Ratings: FIVE STARS ***** for ALL!!! Same for Narration.

All THREE books are from Bethany House Publishers and were published this year.  This series will go on my Best of 2013 as ONE entry, though, as they were so good!  I can totally understand why they released them all so close together--once you've read one you CAN'T WAIT to read the next! They are all stand alone reads and can be read individually.  But all are in a similar time frame.

The Quarryman's Bride "may" have been my favorite of the three. I really loved the heroine (she's the type I like to write about myself.) This gal had a really "tough row to hoe" to put it mildly.

The Icecutter's Daughter was really neat because I LOVED the details about how ice cutters worked up north.  I've known how they transported the ice down and kept it in sawdust for "ice boxes" but I never heard about how they did it.  Such dangerous work!

The Miner's Lady is my most recent read. Tracie did a great job of pitting two Alphas against each other and having them fall in love. The heroine as well as the hero were such super strong personalities that they had to have a strong partner or the relationship never would have worked.  This story is somewhat of a Romeo and Juliet type book.

Tracie had characters from different nationalities in every book, which was so neat.  Having grown up in the far north in Michigan's upper peninsula (which has many commonalities with Minnesota) I also knew many people who were only first or second generation removed from "the Old Country."

Giveaway:  An Audible.com gift download of ANY of the winner's choice--any one of Tracie's books in this series or any other Tracie Peterson audiobook available through audible.com.

  1. Great reviews, CARRIE! I agree that Tracie is extremely talented, but don't you dare stop writing!

My favorite book, or books I should say, of Tracie's are The Heirs of Montana Series. They are beyond good! Just the best and they also hold a fond memory for me, as that is how I met one of my besties, Joan. We were at a meeting, and I saw her reading one from this series, and we started talking about Christian books. And from there sprang up a deep and abiding friendship. So thank you, Tracie! :)

  2. WOW! CARRIE wonderful reviews!! I always enjoy your reviews, they are short, sweet and to the point and always SPOT-ON!! I have to admit I had to giggle at your statement in the first review....I KNOW you are not going stop writing so I take it you are going to work on being better!! In my humble opinion I don't think that's possible.

I hate to admit it but I don't think I have read one of Tracie's books, I believe I need to remedy that very soon after reading yours and Diana's reviews!

  5. There are so many to choose from but if I have to narrow it down to one, I'd say my favorite book that Tracie wrote is The Miner's Lady.

  9. CARRIE, loved your reviews too!! Sweet and succinct, while giving out a few interesting morsels! :) You sure do make the audio books sound good... One day I will have to get around to trying one, and hopefully it has a great narrator like these ones apparently have!
My favourite (paperback) book that I own of Tracie's, is To Have and To Hold. Tracie co-wrote this with Judith Miller. This story was one of those that have a palpable atmosphere about it, one that draws you in to the story, to it's people and surroundings! Well over a year later, I still have images in my mind from this particular story! I bought the second in the series, 'To Honor and Trust' recently but haven't been able to read it yet. That one was released this year. I also bought the Song of Alaska series for my bookcase... hanging out to read that too!!
