Mother's Day Poem by Teresa Mathews

A Mother’s Prayer

Dear Lord help me to be
a Mother that is led by Thee.

One that never has a care,
Even when I could pull out my hair

One that loves my kids, never ending.
Even when for Lego’s it seems I’m always spending.

Picking up toys, washing all the clothes.
Help me, Lord, before my mind goes.

Cooking food and mopping the floor.
Here I go again to the store.

“Mom! Mom! I need new clothes”
Oh well that’s the way the money goes!

Lord, if only I could have a minute alone
I promise I would not talk on the phone.

“Mom! Mom! He hit me on the head!”
Help me, Lord, why couldn’t I have stayed in bed????

Children screaming at each other.
What was the reason I wanted to be a Mother?

Mommy, I love you, Can I have a kiss?
These are the times I’m going to miss.

My little boys are growing up way too fast,
Lord, help me to show them the right path.

Listening to Your voice, telling them the way
Lord, help my boys to follow You everyday.

Let them give You all of their heart,
And from Your way let them never part.

Thank you Lord for allowing me to be
A mother that is led by Thee.

  1. Wonderful Mother's Day poem Teresa!! And thank you so much for sharing it.
You hit the nail on the head with just about everything 'cept for maybe 'Mum! mum! I'm hungry! There's nothing to eat!' :) Lol, having had a boy after 2 girls, that was a major difference between them. ;)
But being a mother is truly the greatest blessing ever and one I'm forever grateful for! I pray constantly also that ALL of my children will follow the Lord and seek His will for their lives - to me that would be the best reward I could have.

    1. JUDY you are so right....being a mother is a blessing from God. I also miss the days when they were small. My oldest one loved trains and there was always track all over the floor. My youngest one loved Legos and he was always making "contraptions". There was never a dull moment in our house!! :)

  4. Teresa, what a lovely poem...bittersweet in a sense b/c all those funny antics you described are so quickly over. They grow up so fast and leave home and it seems like such a short time we are entrusted with their care. Thank God for His second greatest gift to us. First giving us His only son that we might have eternal life and second giving us the opportunity to be a Mother.

    1. DIANA you are so right, it's so sad our babies grow up so fast. I love seeing what wonderful young men Daniel and Joshua have become but Mommie misses rocking her boys and reading to them before bed. What fun times! :)
