Ohh the joys of reading a Julie Lessman novel!! I found
myself smiling silly right throughout the first chapter and repeatedly
thereafter throughout this spirited and sumptuous feast of Julie’s exciting
inspirational romance set in the early 1900’s. This is a romance that will take
you to giddy heights and to sorrowful depths. A journey of love and
relationships that will spark hope and longing within you for the heroes of the
story. And a tale of faith and the importance of integrity that will stir your
heart as you become involved in the lives of the men and women of this
charismatic and loving family.
Cassidy McClare is a spunky 22 year old cowgirl who
has travelled from Texas to San Francisco to stay at her Aunt Caitlyn’s for the
summer. Nursing a sore heart and a bruised pride after being jilted because the
family’s oil had dried up, Cassidy swears off men and especially pretty-boy
Romeo’s. But who should barrel accidentally into Cassidy while she was waiting to
get picked up from the train station? None other than the very type of man she
was running away from!
Pretty boy Jamie MacKenna, and a very close friend of the
McClare’s, is only too happy to discover the gorgeous young woman he’d knocked
over was none other than Caitlyn McClare’s niece. The icing on the cake for him
was that she was an oil heiress… or so he thought. With his little sister Jess,
disabled and needing an expensive operation, and wishing for a better life for
her and his mother, Jamie can see no other way to help them than to marry
well.
Jamie charms Cassie relentlessly, capturing her heart while
at the same time entirely losing his. Knowing why she was so terribly hurt from
her previous relationship, he still feels he has no choice in the matter when he
finally discovers she is dirt-poor. Can he truly give up the one woman he’s only
ever truly loved and instead marry the wealthy Senator’s daughter Patricia, as
he was originally planning to do? How will Cassie fare, and can love find a way
through these seemingly impossible odds?
This captivating and charming tale that also includes a
parallel story featuring Cassie’s widowed Aunt Caitlyn that is just as
enthralling, is filled to the brim with love, family, teasing, taunts, and
laughter! The bantering between the characters was thoroughly entertaining and
enjoyable, and that’s when it wasn’t just plain delicious! I was also managed to
be shocked silly with a surprising twist of an immense magnitude in this story.
In ‘Love at any Cost’, these endearing characters that Julie Lessman has drawn
begin to take on a life of their own, almost prompting me to pray for them. They
also demonstrate the wisdom in dating those with like-minded faith, and prompt
consideration of such issues such as ‘should the end always justify the means’?
Thank you Julie Lessman for taking us all on another
gratifying and unique journey with an equally delightful and appealing family
like the O’Connors from your previous series!

GIVEAWAY: Answer the question and LIKE Julie's Facebook page (put JL) to be entered for a copy of this paperback! We are giving away a book with each review this week!
QUESTION: If you could marry for ten million dollars or for
love, what would you choose and why?
great review Noela! well-written and upbeat!
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you Murray!! And I think I'd know your answer to the question -- since you're the King of Romance right next to Julie - our Queen of Romance!! :)
DeleteLOL ... I don't mind being called "The Queen of Romance" next to Murray's "King," trust me!!
DeleteAnd GREAT QUESTION!! NO CONTEST -- I'd choose "love" over money any day of the week because as long as I have enough money to indulge in romance novels, hair color, and chocolate -- I'm good!!
Hugs,
Julie
Haha JULIE, you know what's IMPORTANT!! :)
DeleteNoela, great review! I can't wait to read LAAC. If I were to marry, it would be for love. I've known people who had a great deal of money, and yet, they weren't happy at all. And then, on the flip side, I've known those who didn't have much, but because they had each other, they were the happiest people in the world. Yep, it would definitely be for love. :)
ReplyDeleteOooops...two things I forgot.
DeleteJL
bookwarp(at)gmail(dot)com
Thanks ANGI! :) Do we have your e-mail Angi?
DeleteGood answer Angi - no point in having all the money in the world and not having happiness! Which is surprising why so many people do think money would actually bring them happiness. Bless you!
LOL, got your email thanks ANGI!! :)
DeleteANG, YES -- Love over money ALWAYS!! I have seen the same thing, even in my own family, and I would also say that the two happiest marriages of people I know are not marriages with wealth, but LOADED in love!!
DeleteGOOD LUCK, my friend -- fingers crossed for a win!!
Hugs,
Julie
I love a good book that makes you smile and is upbeat! This novel sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question I would definitely marry for love! I couldn't see myself married to someone who was rich but didn't love me! Money can only buy you so much and love is not included!
(I liked JL page on FB)
sylvesternator(at)yahoo(dot)com
JULIE'S book sure does make you smile LAURA... it can be hard to wipe off the smile sometimes lol, but then there is enough angst in this story to give a great balance!
DeleteI agree wholeheartedly LAURA... I'd rather be as poor as a church mouse and have love than not have it at all!! Thanks for stopping by!
LAURA ... well, I'm known as a CDQ (caffeinated drama queen), so my prior series contain a LOT of drama and angst with tears and laughter sown in. BUT ... Love at Any Cost was written in a much lighter vein, so I do think it's the funniest book I've written so far, which hopefully will make you smile once or twice. :)
DeleteHere's hoping you pull out a win to find out firsthand! :)
Hugs,
Julie
Provocative question, Noela!!! Probably depends on the night that you ask that question lol ;)
ReplyDeleteLol CARRIE... I'm sure we all feel that at times!! Well to an extent anyway haha, but I know you wouldn't have it any other way!!! ;)
DeleteI love that one, CARRIE! LOL And totally agree!
DeleteLOL, CARRIE ... GOOD POINT!! ;) On the nights I look in the mirror at my double chin and droopy eyes, I am VERY tempted to go for the money that would allow for a tuck here and there! ;) But then my sweet hubby tells me I'm beautiful no matter what, and I think ... yeah, we DO need the money for his eyesight ... ;)
DeleteHugs,
Julie
As always, an awesome review, NOELA! This book made my boat float, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks DIANA... well we have boats floating and toes curling LOL what these books do to us...!! ;) Still haven't quite figured out about the wallaby toes yet LOL :D
DeleteLOL ... "floating boats" and "curling toes" ... Yep, sign me up!! :)
DeleteHugs,
Julie
Great review! This made me want to read it all the more! :)
ReplyDeleteI would marry for love.... if you marry for money, then I think you would end up being miserable. I would most certainly marry for love.
Bianca (JL)
biancarachele@gmail.com
DeleteThank you so much BIANCA! You will just love this book and the wonderful and spunky characters in it for sure!! :)
DeleteThe thing about money, it would eventually run out! And as you pointed out Bianca, even if it brought temporary happiness, it wouldn't last and you'd end up miserable... no fun in that! :)
Hey, BIANCA, I agree -- both Carrie's review yesterday and Noela's today are all I need for promo, I think -- they are THAT good!!
DeleteGood luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Julie
Aww thanks JULIE! You're a SWEETHEART!! :)
DeleteHOLY COW, NOELA!!! "Sumptuous feast," "giddy heights" and "just plain delicious" ... WHOA, BABY ... even I want to run right out and buy my book (AND get something to eat)!! ;)
ReplyDeleteLike I said on FB, my friend -- WOW, WOW, WOW!!! This review pretty much blew my socks off, you sweet thing, and trust me -- I am giddy heights myself over the fact that you enjoyed it so much -- BLESS YOU!!
Beautifully written, Noela, truly, and I'll tell you what -- knowing Carrie is a rich experience, but getting to know ALL of you through her has been truly remarkable and a TOTAL BLESSING!!
Thank you again for making my day!!
Hugs,
Julie
LOL JULIE, very happy and smiling silly AGAIN lol that you enjoyed it and it made your day!! :) So easy to write for you my friend, your stories make it easy because they're so FABULOUS and FUN!!! Love you!!
DeleteI want to read this one so badly. I've loved Julie's other books, and I know this one is just as good. As for the question, the romantic in me believes marrying for money might just turn into a love match. However, I'm not certain I'd take the chance, so I'd probably marry for love.
ReplyDeletemchapman (at) windstream (dot) net
Yes MICHELLE, if you've read JULIE's other books, you already know how good this one will be!!! :)
DeleteOoh I love your answer!!! If we could WRITE the story, we could marry for money and have the love come after!! :) But sadly life can't be written so yep, better not take the chance lol.
LOL, MICHELLE ... there's either a bit of the gambler in you or a LOT of the optimist, but I'm inclined to agree a wee bit. And I know our hero in this book, Jamie MacKenna, certainly feels that way ... :)
DeleteGOOD LUCK!!
Hugs,
Julie
Good review Noela.. I would never marry for money .. It would have to be for love. I have heard of people marrying for money for difference reasons and they are never happy.I choose happiness over money.. Would love to win your book Julie. Sounds so good. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteliz
lizd225(at)gmail(dot)com
Thanks ELIZABETH! And here's hoping you win JULIE'S fantastic book!
DeleteMoney certainly doesn't bring happiness Elizabeth, and in most cases too much money brings the absolute opposite -- so much better to marry for sweet love!! :)
Hey, LIZ ... we definitely get this puppy into your hands because you sound like a diehard romantic and that's what I write, so GOOD LUCK, my friend!!
DeleteHugs,
Julie
oooo I forgot to put JL sorry.
ReplyDeleteliz lizd225(at)gmail(dot)com
Thanks LIZ! :)
DeleteNOELA an absolutely positively fantastic review!! It is one of Julie's books so it makes it easy for us doesn't it? I had the best time reading this and writing my review of it. Now to answer your question...I married for love the first time, it was a little sad when I had to break that millionaire's heart by choosing to marry for love but so worth it!!! NAH!!! Just kidding...mom had run off all my other boyfriends...Carlton was the only one brave enough to stick it out to marry me!! :D So YES if I had do it all over again it would be for love. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks TERESA! :) You are so right -- it's very easy to write reviews for such amazing and enjoyable stories!! :)
DeleteOHHH that poor soul out there somewhere nursing his big 'ol bank account and a bruised heart!! He wasn't one run off by your mom's oh whoops, I mean dad's gun, was he??? LOL
Carlton's a VERY lucky man to have you Sissy!!! :)
That might be what happened...Mom was just practicing for the day she'd run off all my fellas with that gun!! lol
DeleteLOL, TERESA ... "MOM" sounds like my kind of gal, but then "DAUGHTER" is too. :) And I'm glad I make it "easy" for you to read and review my books, but I'm convinced we like the same things in a romance novel, so that really helps!!
DeleteThanks for ALL of your support, Teresa!
Hugs,
Julie
I would for sure marry for love!!! Forget money!! What use is money if you don't have love?
ReplyDeleteGreat review! martha(at)lclink(dot)com
Oh, and I already had liked her FB page! JL
DeleteLol just FORGET the money!! Good on you MARTHA, you're right what's the use if you don't have love! For some reason this reminds me of a song but I can't figure out what one, any ideas? :) All the best with your entry!!
DeleteOh, AMEN to that, MARTHA!! Let's some ... miserable but comfortable? Or scraping by and in love? Mmmm ... could depend on one's age, I suppose ... ;)
DeleteGood luck, my friend!!
Hugs,
Julie
First off, I could not spend my life with someone I was not in love with. The money couldn't make me happy in that situation. I would love to have Julie's book tho. Thanks for another chance to win. Girlfriends, are all of you forgetting to put my name in the pot for drawing? Just wondering. LOL Maxie mac262(at)me(dot)com
ReplyDeleteNo, dear MAXIE we're not forgetting to pop your name in for the drawing at all, lol -- we would LOVE you to win!!! :) You'll just love Julie's book too Maxie as I suspect you already know! ;)
DeleteIt's tough when you think about having to spend a lifetime WITHOUT love! Like Julie says, LOVE over MONEY every time!! :)
LOL, MAXIE ... look out, the girl's getting feisty!! ;) That's what I like to see ... a pit-bull mentality when it comes to reading my books. We'll see what we can do, Maxie, to toss you a San Fran bone!! :)
DeleteGOOD LUCK, MY FRIEND!!
HUGS,
Julie
I would choose true love, because true love is priceless.
ReplyDeleteVery well put YVONNE!!! :)
DeleteCARRIE, I've got Yvonne on FB so I can contact her if she is the winner.
Oh, AMEN to that, YVONNE!! I agree with Noela -- well put!!

Love for sure! That is why I married a teacher!
ReplyDeleteHi TINA... lol, yes I can see you married for love but I do so wish teachers were paid more, they are SO worth it!!
DeleteCan you leave your email please if you'd like to be in for the chance to win a copy of Julie's book? Thanks!!
LOL, TINA ... teachers do pretty good these days, I hear, so it sounds like you have both love AND money! ;)
DeleteHugs,
Julie
I married for Love (did not know any rich guys :) - 26 years and going strong! Love will get you thru the tough times. Money eventually gets spent and you are left with nothing. I would not trade my man for anything!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely true SUSAN, and sweet to hear you wouldn't trade your man for anything!!
DeleteLeave your email if you'd like to be in the draw for Julie's book! Thanks!!
Oh, AMEN, SUSAN!! Sounds like you already came up a winner in the love department, so let's see if we can do the same for you here. GOOD LUCK!!

Oh for sure, ANNE, lol, lots of delicious banter as only JULIE can do!! :) It's a book not to be missed for sure!
DeleteLove over money is the way to go... and it's so great to see so much LOVE on these posts!!! :)
LOL, ANNE ... I love "the delicious banter" too -- Noela definitely has a way with words. Maybe we can talk HER into writing a novel, too, because I think she definitely has what it takes. :)
DeleteHugs,
Julie
I didn't grow up with a lot of money, but there was definitely lots of love in our house and I think that is what is important! So I would choose love.
ReplyDeletepattymh2000(at)yahoo(dot)com
JL
It's definitely what's important PATTY, and necessary for a happy life! Good choice!! :) Best of luck in the competition! God bless!
DeletePATTY, I totally agree. Coming from a GREAT marriage, I would say love is more important than anything, even money.
DeleteGOOD LUCK!!
Hugs,
Julie
The money would be tempting, but would have to marry for love!! Love is forever, money is not!! tammyredd@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHi TAMMY, yep I'd say it'd give many a pause, lol, but as you say love is forever and money isn't!!
DeleteAll the best with the draw! :)
Ooooo, TAMMY, good answer, girl!! Here's hoping it nets you a win. :)
DeleteHugs,
Julie
I would definitely marry for love. Money can only get you so much, but can't buy you happiness.
ReplyDeletemandaandtom(at)gmail(dot)com
JL
Good on you AMANDA, I completely agree with you!! :)
DeleteLots of luck in the draw Amanda, God bless!!
Hey, AMANDA ... I totally agree ... money canNOT buy you happiness and in some cases, can buy you heartbreak. :|
DeleteGOOD LUCK!!
Hugs,
Julie
I've never had much money, did marry for love (one of the reasons why I've never had much money - I settled down with a family before finishing my education, what an education I've gained from the "lessons of life"), & have been divorced for many years. But - realize that the reason I am divorced is because I wasn't following God's plan for my life, at the time, & didn't choose the right partner. If I could do it over - I would follow His plan, but would still marry for love - money is never the solution to a happy life.
ReplyDeleteI am a Julie Facebook follower.
bonnieroof60@yahoo.com
Thanks for sharing BONNIE and it's a good lesson for us all - following God's plan for our life can definitely save us much heartache. He really does only want the best for us! Wishing you all the best and much happiness!!
DeleteHere's to a win for you, God bless you!!
Hey, BONNIE, good to see you here, my friend. I am sorry about the divorce, but SO glad God is now in your life leading you through the rough spots.
DeleteI sure would love to see you win, girl, so GOOD LUCK!!
Hugs,

I would only marry for love. I could live without money, but not without love.

Well said PHYLLIS! I don't think those out there that are so focused on money realize this very important fact!
DeleteGod bless and here's to a win for you!
Oh, AMEN, PHYLLIS!! PREACH IT, girlfriend. :)
DeleteGood luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Julie
Love, money is over rated. Just had this conversation with someone today. Do people ever reach the point where X-amount of money is enough? I have been blessed with an amazing husband (12 years this month) and I wouldn't trade him for any amount. JL
ReplyDeleteMelissa
Battles2001@hotmail.com
MELISSA, you have a very good point, and one that I think many have proven too. For many people, the more money they have, the more they want or need! And they can strive their whole lives for it but seem to forget they can't take it with them when they depart from earth!
DeleteCongratulations of your 12th year Anniversary coming up with your amazing man!! God bless you both.
All the best in the draw Melissa!
MELISSA!!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, my friend, and here's hoping we can celebrate with a win for you. :)
DeleteHugs,
Julie
Thanks, Ladies. Both of us come from broken homes and I think that makes us cherish each other even more. =)

Love the love!! Better to be happy, then rich & miserable.

DeleteYAY, MARY ... I'm right here with you, girl ... BRING ON THE LOVE!!

Oh my goodness, no brainer - for LOVE! Money just cannot buy happiness. It can buy books, which is pretty darn close to happiness. ;) Can't wait to read this!

farmygirl at hotmail dot com
Thanks for coming by SUSAN... and yeah, it is a bit of a no-brainer huh? :) If you want to be happy that is! Very important to have some money as you say though to buy all these fantastic books - which do indeed bring joy as well!! ;) Enjoy JULIE'S book when you get a chance to read it as I know you will, and good luck with the drawing! Bless you!
DeleteSUSAN ... "NO BRAINER" is right!! And I can't wait for you to read it either, so here's to a win!!
DeleteHugs,
Julie
sounds like such a fun book and as usual you did a great job of maaking us all want to read it Noela.
ReplyDeleteMoney or love? I agree with you all--pretty much a no-brainer, because that is the way God has it planned! I have to say, that God blessed me with a good one, and if I look back at the other prospects I had nearly 40 years ago--I got the prize! He loves me no matter what and we have been thru many good and bad during those 40 years, but God has always been there for the tuff ones as well as the good ones...and we are looking forward to finding a fun way to celebrate in a couple months!
Vicki CFP JL
vmarney(at)hotmail(dot)com
VICKI ... 40 YEARS??? Holy cow, girl, that's a true love affair there for sure! Me and the love of my life will be 35 years this year, but I'm betting I'm still older than you because I couldn't land a man till my late 20s!! ;)
DeleteHugs!
Julie
I've always been told to marry for love and not for money because the money probably won't last your whole life...and neither will your marriage. So I choose love! It's priceless. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read Julie's new book!!!

DeleteHey, MARISSA ... I can't wait for you to read it either, my friend. Let me know what you think when you do, okay?

Julie, I so enjoy your books and this one sounds like it will be as good as your other books....
ReplyDeleteAs to your question, I would marry for love.....I married my high school sweet heart in 1971, we celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary the 15th of May....would not do it any other way. The Lord certainly blessed me with a wonderful, caring, loving husband.
Blessings, Tina
JL
So glad you were blessed with a sweet husband, Tina! Hugs!
