The Real Meaning of Easter
Easter Bunnies, cute and white,
aren't they such a
precious sight?
Pretty eggs and yummy candy,
makes your Easter great
and dandy
Beautiful flowers, in bouquets bright,
all this makes
your heart delight.
But wait you say… something’s just not right.
Why must
we drag an old rugged cross in sight?
Do we have to talk about a man beaten black and blue?
Are you sure he died for me? For you?
to talk
about the nails in His hands and feet.
The Son of God with thorns for a crown,
His precious
blood flowing on the ground
He gave His life for all our sins?
Come now, don’t
repeat THAT again!
If this old story were really true,
if God gave His
son for me and you,
Things on this earth would never be the same.
People
everywhere would be filled with shame.
Running to the cross, laying down their sin,
asking
for His forgiveness, asking Him to come in.
Isn't that the real reason for this beautiful day?
Remembering a Risen Savior who washed our sins away?
HAPPY EASTER!!

I really enjoyed your poem, TERESA! Happy Easter to you as well. :)
ReplyDeleteMARIAN thank you, :)
DeleteBeautiful poem, Teresa. Thank you for sharing it with us! Joy Ross Davis
ReplyDeleteJOY thank you so much! :)
DeleteHappy Easter TERESA!! Thank you for writing and sharing this poem my very talented Sis! You know, I get the feeling that many that don't know Jesus personally, have been thinking those exact things because of sooo many pictures shared on FB this year depicting Jesus' death and resurrection! I pray these souls will run to the Cross this year!!
ReplyDeleteNOELA I have noticed the same thing, it's about time people come to know Jesus because He is Coming Soon! Won't that be wonderful?!
DeleteBeautiful words, Teresa.
ReplyDeleteMy view is unpopular but I think the "church" has contributed to the abundance of the bunny. Why do "Christians" spend their money on that stuff? Wouldn't it be better spent helping a family in need? Living out the Gospel of Christ makes a bigger impact. WWJD
Have a Blessed Resurrection Weekend!!!
ANNE I think you are EXACTLY right!! As Christians we should put our words into action! FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD. James 2:20 Thanks for coming by it's always a pleasure. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem Teresa and enjoyed it... Praying you have a great and Blessed Easter Weekend friend..Thank you for sharing with us . We have a Sun Rise service at our Church in the morning And looking forward to it ..

Waving at you LIZ. :) Thank you for coming by and enjoy your Sunrise Service. Happy Resurrection Day!!!
DeleteSuch a beautiful poem. I so enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteJUANITA
DeleteThank you, I am glad it blessed you! So glad you came by.. :)
Thank you for the beautiful poem, our lovely poetess! I think the true meaning of Easter has truly become lost...so sad. It has become a time for people to celebrate Easter baskets, new dresses and hats, and going to church for the first time in a year. And not going again until next year at the same time. :(
ReplyDeleteDIANA you're not wearing a New Hat??? lol Me neither! lol It is very sad the world has forgotten that Easter is about JESUS....just like CHRISTMAS!
DeleteBeautifully spoken, Teresa, such a precious poem! Thanks for allowing God to speak through you the real meaning of Easter :) I do love Easter candy, but the death of Christ is such a necessary part of Easter that I reflect on differently each year. There are no words to properly convey the gratitude, heartbreak and hope of Christ dying for me and what that means to me. Good Friday had new meaning for me yesterday and my heart overflows with love for God.
ReplyDeleteI wish you and all the OWG sisters the happiest Easter this weekend, that you would be overwhelmed and renewed with the revelation of how loved you are :)
Hugs and blessings from your encourager, your friend, and your sister in Christ:
Kara
KARA what beautiful words, GOD has certainly blessed you with a talent to uplift others. This time of year is so beautiful and when you think that JESUS gave His life for everyone it amazes me.WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE to give up HIS only SON to die for our sins.
DeleteAbout the Candy...I LOVE Easter Candy, I have been looking everywhere for the little bunnies and chicks that are made like the Circus Peanuts, so disappointed not to find it anymore. I also love the Robin Eggs which are like the malted milk balls. YUM YUM. Can't wait until Monday when it ALL goes on sale!!! ~giggle~ :)
Hope you have a BLESSED EASTER!!
Teresa, I love your poetry! Thanking God we have our very own poetess here at OWG! Thanks for sharing this. I feel sure Diana was gonna lecture me that the real meaning of Easter was NOT how to eat the bunny ears without anyone discovering they were gone! Good thing God has a sense of humor and puts up with my nonsense! We DO get distracted by the hoopla. I am guilty of this, too. Hugs and Easter blessings!
ReplyDeleteCARRIE I would be in a world of trouble if laughter was wrong in GOD'S sight. You know I love to act silly, according to Proverbs it works like medicine. :) Don't get me started on the candy! See my above comment to KARA. I not only have a sweet tooth....all of my teeth love sweets! lol I have a feeling this will be the best EASTER ever for you this year! MISS "I HAVE A NEW BOOK OUT" PAGELS!! ;) So happy for you!
DeleteLOL, CARRIE, about the bunny ears! Inside joke, y'all! ;)
DeleteTeresa I love it! So glad it wasn't about Easter bunnies. He is our Savior and he has Risen!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Happy Easter.
Diana Montgomery
DIANA everywhere we go we are bombarded by things that are fine in their place but satan is doing every thing in his power to destroy the REAL meaning of CHRISTMAS and EASTER, Anything that will wipe out the NAME of JESUS he promotes. Glad you enjoyed the poem! HAPPY EASTER!!
DeleteOh Teresa! MAJOR goosebumps! Wonderfully written and so true. Although I don't mind egg hunts and baskets, I encourage my children to tell my grandchildren about the TRUE meaning of Easter. They are young right now, but if they are told each year as they grow up, it will become a part of them and the holiday. Question: Have you considered putting together a book of your poems? I would be first in line to buy it! Something to think about. Have a truly blessed Easter..Resurrection Day!
ReplyDeleteDEBBIE that would be so GREAT!! I have thought about how nice that would be, maybe one day if I keep working on them I might have enough for a book. :) I agree one hundred percent we should teach our children when they are small because if we don't teach them while they are little satan will send other things to occupy their minds and time. Thanks for stopping by! HAPPY EASTER!
DeleteTeresa, how beautifully written. Words that surely touched my heart. Thank you so much for this post. We really need to stop and ponder on what our Savior truly did for each and everyone of us. Thank you Jesus!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Judy B
JUDY I am so glad this touched you. It is very sad that our world doesn't want to remember the real meaning of Easter. The Son of God giving His life for the sins of EVERYONE. And now He is our RISEN SAVIOR!! Thank you for coming by.
DeleteThat's a beautiful poem, Teresa! Thank you for sharing. Easter Blessings to you, and yours!
ReplyDeleteMICHELLE thank you so much for stopping by. I'm glad I was able to share with everyone. I give God the glory for helping me to write this. HAPPY EASTER to you!!

ReplyDeleteLove it Teresa. I feel too much emphasis is on the Easter eggs tho. That what children think about when it is time for Easter. That important time of Christmas also. Look how much importance is in gifts(even that people go in debt for) instead of just small gifts of love to show the love we learned from our Lord. Wishing a wonderful Easter day for all of you OWG girls.
<3 Maxie
MAXIE I'm glad you came by and you are so right about Easter and Christmas. As parents we need to teach our children about our AMAZING GOD AND HIS WONDERFUL SON!!
DeleteHAPPY EASTER!!
He Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed! Praise to His Name for freeing us!
ReplyDeleteYesterday I met with a doctor and she told me her staff would call me on Friday, that they were off today ~ that most people didn't know what Good Friday was about any more. As she was leaving, I said, "I love the Lord." At the door she said, "So do I."

KATHLEEN that's wonderful that you found a doctor that isn't afraid to talk about the LORD. When my oldest son was small and he had to have sinus surgery we had the pleasure of having an ENT that held our hands and prayed over our son before he took him to surgery.
DeleteThank you so stopping by! HAPPY EASTER!
A wonderful poem with a reminder of the true reason for celebrating east. Thanks for sharing it Teresa--you are truly gifted by our Lord with your poems and it would be great for all of us to be able to enjoy them in a book, but in the meantime, we are fortunate to enjoy them here! I pray everyone has aa wonderful Easter Sunday and beyond!
ReplyDeleteVicki
VICKI thanks for stopping by and reading my poem. It would be nice to one day have a book of poems maybe one day GOD will see fit for that to happen! I hope you have a HAPPY EASTER!! :)
DeleteThank you!!
ReplyDeleteMARY you are very welcome, I am so glad you dropped by. Hope you have a Happy Easter!
