Suspense Cajun-Style!
Kathy Herman http://www.kathyherman.com
takes the reader off on a suspenseful page-turner in the first of her series Secrets of Roux River Bayou, False Pretenses!I was immediately drawn to the hometown atmosphere of this Loiusiana bayou setting...colorful shops, cajun cuisine and language, and southern plantations!
Zoe Broussard's life is perfect...her dream of opening a successful cajun eatery has come to fruition, a dream she shares with the love of her life, Pierce Broussard. As her best friends, Vanessa and Ethan Langley, embark on fulfilling their own dream of turning an inherited plantation into a bed-and-breakfast, Zoe's perfect world begins to unravel.
What terrible secrets is Zoe hiding from the past that could destroy her marriage and reputation, and who is sending her frightening, anonymous notes, threatening to expose her? And who is the mysterious stranger that Vanessa and Ethan's four year old son claims to have spoken to in the mansion? Is he the product of a child's overactive imagination or is the Langley mansion actually harboring a ghost? Eventually Zoe's lies put her and all those she loves in terrible danger, and her marriage is put to the ultimate test. A riveting novel of past mistakes, forgiveness, tension and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
My passion is historical fiction, but there is enough southern history packed in this powerful novel, to have successfully turned me into a fan of contempory suspense. At least of Kathy's books anyway! I can't wait for the next one!
*Warning* There is some violence for those of you who are a bit on the squeamish side.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. False Pretenses sounds like a great book for me to read at the beach in June. Kathy is one of my favorite authors.
ReplyDeletePerfect book to take to the beach, Fran! You might want to put plenty of sunscreen on though, because you won't be able to put this one down and it's a thick book. Don't want you to get sunburned.:)

Hey Marian and Pegg! Doesn't Diana do a great job? Hot and humid, here, Marian - over 80 and it is before 10 here. Hey, are the tulips up over there?
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Carrie. Stephanie, it's good to see you here! It is stormy in SC, with heavy rains and tornado warnings (not good). But, sunny and hot tomorrow through the weekend. Yes, Marian, please post some tulip pics on FB when they come up!
ReplyDeleteWow! Can't wait to read this one...I'm with you Diana, I love historical fiction but I also love mysteries and this one sounds like it contains some of both. Hope to win!

For some strange reason, Teresa, I think you will love the whole southern setting thing Kathy's got going on, too! Just a feeling I have...:-)
ReplyDeleteSounds great!

The tulips are beginning to fade again. They don't like the warmer weather (we had Summer temperatures), so I think they didn't last as long as usually.
ReplyDeleteToday we had rain, sun, rain, sun and now rain again.
Marian, for some reason I thought they bloomed later over there. Our daffodils are done. Tulips get eaten by squirrels or deer in my neighborhood. They should still be blooming further inland, in the mountains. Praying for the people hit by the tornadoes today and yesterday. We had a watch earlier.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Joan!
Tulips bloom in March and April. When the weather isn't too hot they can last till May.
ReplyDeleteRain nonstop in Ohio has taken the blooms off the tulips. But today and tomorrow are supposed to have sunshine. So things will pop!!!!
ReplyDeletePut me in the drawing.
Dubby, Could not find your profile, come back and give me your email address and thanks for your kind words! Sharon, so good to see you here! Praying for blooms! Marian, my lilacs and roses smell heavenly. I am packing the goody bags today from last weeks party and getting them in the mail. Diana should do a drawing shortly!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about it :-)
ReplyDeleteOf course I'll let you when it arrived!
Sharon, so good to see you here! I thought about you, believe it or not, when this posted, knowing how you do love a good suspense story. And this is just that! I started to visit your blog yesterday and got sidetracked...going there now!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Amy Leek for winning a copy of Kathy Herman's new book, False Pretenses! Enjoy, Amy! I hope you return here with your email address so I can contact you for your snail mail address. Thanks to all who came over to leave a nice comment; I wish I had a book for each one of you!
