A testimony of
Overcoming Divorce & Finding Purpose
Guest Post
By Lisa Prysock
Twenty years ago I went through a devastating divorce after ten
years of marriage. I had a three-year-old little boy with a heart condition. I
was heartbroken that the marriage had not worked out.
I kept praying and reading the Word during this time, doing
my best to remain faithful to the Lord.
I had to start over and find an apartment after living with my mother
during the divorce. The Lord basically
had to rebuild my life from the ground up.
About seven months after my divorce was final, I found an apartment in
an old-fashioned Victorian house to live in with my little boy.
It wasn’t easy, but I continued to pray and trust God for a
miracle and a new chance at finding love again.
One evening, I found myself at the altar at the end of a Wednesday night
service where a special evangelist had ministered to us. I prayed earnestly for God to give me a Godly
husband, someone who would be a Godly father for my son. The evangelist prayed for me while I was
praying and asked God to answer my prayers.
That really strengthened me to know that the man of God was praying for
me also. I had been praying at home too,
knowing that the fervent, continual, effectual prayers of the righteous man (or
woman) avail much. I had made a list of
attributes I desired to see in a husband.
I don’t remember much about my list, but I know that God likes to answer
specific prayers. I also remember that I
asked God for a man who would like to do gardening with me as I enjoyed
gardening.
God works so fast sometimes!
When I went back to my seat as the service closed and gathered my Bible,
purse and keys to leave, I heard the Holy Spirit speak audibly to me. Some people don’t believe God can do this
sort of thing. However, the Bible says
that my sheep hear my voice and they know me.
He said to me, don’t leave yet. So I stood still at my seat and tried to act
natural as I slowed the process of gathering my things, wondering what was
about to happen next.
The evangelist was turning off lights and most people were
already spilling out into the parking lot.
I had no idea what was going to happen but I knew I was supposed to
wait. So I waited, expectantly. I knew God was up to something. Sure enough, the evangelist asked if I would
be willing to give an elderly lady a ride home from church. He said she’s in her 90’s and doesn’t
drive. So I said, “Yes! I would be happy to do that for her.” I knew who he was talking about. She was a Spirit-filled believer and mighty
prayer warrior named Ezella Morris.
For the next three months I took Ezella to church and gave
her rides home. She often prayed over my
three-year-old son, who sat in his car seat next to her. One day, I asked her if she knew anyone who
could do minor apartment repairs for some things I needed done at my
apartment. She said her grandson had his
own business doing home repairs and gave me his phone number and her name as a
reference.
Today, I am happily married to her grandson! He is a gift from God! We met and fell almost instantly in
love! He loves God, takes me to church,
works hard to be a good provider, and the best part -- he is faithful to the
Lord. He had two daughters (grown now
living in other states), so we had three children right off the bat. The Lord blessed us with two more children for
a total of five children! We have been
going strong ever since! He still owns a
handyman business and guess what… he used to be a landscaper. He knew everything about gardening a woman
could want to know. We do lots of
gardening together!
We eventually moved from Ohio to Florida, and then to settle
in Kentucky where God revived my writing dreams. Last year, he built me my very own
writing/sewing office. I’m so thankful
for my writing office. It is such a
blessing to me and my work! I am living
proof that dreams do come true! This
year will be our 20th wedding anniversary!
