Seven Blessings From "I Can't" by Carrie Fancett Pagels

Praying Hands from Oral Roberts University

Have you ever felt like you've run into a brick wall with what you are trying to do? Are you worn out? Tired? Maybe sick for weeks like I have been recently? Sometimes we have to grab ahold of the notion that we can't. We cannot do. We are unable to accomplish what we believe needs to be done.

There is something grand to be said for getting to "I can't"!

  1. Sometimes we have to get to the end of ourselves to open the door wide for God.
  2. We get back more fully into His Word, which brings direction, and peace.
  3. We come before His throne and pray and submit ourselves to Him and are blessed and bless others by lifting them up.
  4. When we do that, we can more readily discern His will.
  5. When we walk in His will our lives are blessed and ease follows.
  6. We bring glory to Him when we credit Him with what HE has done through us - what we could NOT do ourselves.
  7. I can't becomes I CAN with God's help!!!
If you are struggling this week, will you go to Abba Father and tell Him you CANNOT?  He already knows!  Let Him bless you by reaching this stage--and congratulations on getting to the end of you and letting Him restore you.

    1. Sometimes it is the thing of really realizing that you can't do something! Letting go of the notion that you are fully able puts you right back in God's hands! Hugs!

  2. I was very ill recently when trying to write an important review for someone very special who has been through alot. I absolutely couldn't and had to step away from it. I went to bed and while falling asleep sentences started coming to my mind and I said to myself that I needed to get up and write them down or I would forget them. They were lovely words that I couldn't think of earlier or when I was falling asleep either. Well, I fell asleep w/out writing them down, but they were right before me when I went back to write the review. When I can't I am learning He can! He writes my reviews a lot! lol Thanks for the wonderful article and for the reminder, Carrie!

    1. I LOVE it when He does that for us, Diana!!! One of my author friends, Kim, and I were just discussing this on the phone--how you go to read something GOD through His Holy Spirit co-wrote with you and you're just amazed! And it is so much better than your everyday efforts! God is so good to us!

  3. Thank CARRIE for these encouraging words. I have been finding this out myself going through all I have in the past almost 5 months without Carlton. There are so many things I have gotten through that I never would have without GOD's help! When you say Lord I CAN'T, He shows up right on time and shows you, I CAN! :-)

    1. Exactly, Teresa. Right now you really can't. But God can. But He has to decide what is best for us to do and sometimes that is NOTHING! Rest! Sometimes He doesn't want us out helping people but He wants to minister to us. Big hugs my friend!

  6. Carrie, this is great stuff! :) I'm going to print it out and stick it somewhere. I struggle and get overwhelmed a lot but just continue to push on instead of going to God and saying the above. Awesome advice! Bless you for sharing. xx

    1. Uh oh! That's kind of what I have been doing, too, if we are both going to make confessions here! But God had to remind me to STOP that! Like getting to the end of a rope and going, wait--where's the rest? And you look to Him and He says, that is MY rope--just hang on and trust Me!!!

  7. It brings to mind Scripture in Jeremiah~

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
    whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
    It does not fear when heat comes;
    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
    Jeremiah 17:7-8

  8. Great blog post, Carrie. At my age--heading toward 70, I have had to content myself with not having the drive and energy of my youth. I have always been a "do-er." However, the last "big" project that the Lord had for me was completed in April 2012. Feeling somewhat at loose ends, I have taken the opportunity to do more independent Bible study--following His lead, rather than a formal study. The Lord has really blessed me in this, and I believe I am learning more about Him each day. It has been wonderful just to learn and study at His feet. I believe that is His purpose for me at this time. Who knows what tomorrow might bring--but for now I am continually blessed by the opportunity to know Him more. It can be very difficult to let go of the "doing," but He has a plan for each day of our lives here on earth and He will see us through--whatever the task.
