Teresa S. Mathews Reviews Sadie's Gift

Sadie's Gift by Niki Turner
Christmas Traditions Book 2
Published by Grass Valley Publications

In this truly heartwarming Christmas story talented author Niki Turner introduces us to a selfless to a fault young nurse, Sadie Hubbard. Sadie works in a children's Preventorium, a sad place where children are put when exposed to Tuberculosis.

Three days before Christmas Sadie is trying to figure out she can provide presents for all the children who will be spending the holiday in the Preventorium. Knowing she doesn't have enough money, she resorts to what she has been doing since working there when the children needed anything; pawning her family's jewelry. Even though it saddens her to do this, the tremendous joy on the children's faces will be worth the sacrifice.

While contemplating how she can make her limited funds cover that many presents Sadie absentmindedly walks into the path of a Model T Ford. Thank God the man behind the wheel was paying more attention than Sadie and was able to avoid hitting her.

Nathan Well's is a young man who has been through a lot in the past few months, the loss of his brother has shaken his faith to his very core.  It seems like it's all he can concentrate on lately; good thing he did have the sense of mind to concentrate on his driving too because out of nowhere a young woman walks out right in front of him. Narrowly missing her, he swerves into a tree with the only thing he has left of his dear brother; his Model T Ford.

When Sadie realizes what she caused she runs over to check on the man that almost hit her and she finds a very angry young man with the most piercing blue eyes. When Sadie apologizes for her mistake he demands the money to fix his car or he threatens to have her arrested.  Knowing there is no way she can give him something she doesn't have, she tells him where he can have his car repaired and she promises she will give him the money.

Later in the day Sadie returns to her boarding house only to find the same man sitting at the table having dinner. Is this just a coincidence or could there be a higher power at work here? Will Sadie be able to help Nathan find his faith again?

This story by Niki Turner is the epitome of a wonderful Christmas Story that will bring a smile to your face and warmth to your 2014 Christmas Season.  Thank you, Ms. Turner for writing this beautiful and heart touching story.

    1. Thanks CARRIE! It is a great book and the TB part was rough for a softie like me to think about children being taken away from their families or losing their families. :-)
