Guest Post by Review Dude: Ender's Game Audiobook Review

Ender's Game Audibook Cover on Kindle Fire

Good but Slightly Disturbing SciFi Book!

Rating: Four and a half stars. Ender is sorry for the aliens he has killed but not as much for the fellow humans he killed.

Narrator: Four. Well in all, but the narrator sounded depressed.

Spoiler alert: Please note this review will include spoilers.

Orson Scott Card spin a yarn about what could happen in a world where everything is based around fear of aliens. Card creates a responsible quick-minded hero who although regretting it later does whatever he needs to do to survive.

Ender Wiggin's story begins with him as a six-year-old in an urban unnamed U.S. city living with his mother, father, and brilliant brother, Peter, and sister, Valentine. As a "third" (third child) Ender shouldn't be alive because third children weren't allowed to live unless the government allows them to be born. His parents got permission because his siblings were brilliant.

Ender is selected for a school for brilliant ambitious and command-worthy kids to be sent up to a space station called Battle School for training. This story is about Ender's Battle School and Command School experiences in defeating the Formix, AKA, "the Buggers". Afterwards, Ender goes to a different world and discovers a hive queen egg and the hive queen communicates mind-to-mind with him and he realizes that the buggers did not come back to invade because they realized humans were sentient beings, after they were defeated in the two bugger wars.

Christian/bibliotherapy aspects: Coping with guilt, being deceived by others, how parents' faithfulness can influence children, wandering from faith, and how not remaining in faith affects people.

  1. REVIEW DUDE what an impressive post!! I'm not much for Sci-Fi, unless it's Star Wars, but you certainly made this book sound appealing to a silly "old lady" that usually loves one of those sweet romances like the lovely Mrs. Pagels writes! ;-) I am looking forward to seeing more of your posts on OWG!! Great Job Review Dude!!

    1. If it sounds appealing then try to get out of the library and if you like it buy it or not and if you absolutely hate it I don't blame you because a lot of people hate but not me. from review dude

  3. What an interesting and well-written review, Review Dude. I see the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You may need Carrie Pagels to explain what I mean by that. ;) Thank you for being our guest this week...I'm sure my gson would enjoy this!

  4. Hey Review Dude, I loved your awesome review!! My birthday dude who turned 19 today, tells me this is a movie he wouldn't mind seeing. Think I might have to sit in on that viewing after reading your post! I did a quick google search too and came upon some interesting quotes from Ender's Game! Some contemplative quotes such as “Because never in my entire childhood did I feel like a child. I felt like a person all along―the same person that I am today.” And some that were really amusing such as "He's not a killer. He just wins... Thoroughly" :-)
Thanks again for being our guest reviewer RD, I'd love to see you back here again too!! God bless!

  5. RD, Impressive review! I don't read sci-fi or fantasy but I have two son's who enjoy it. If I win, I would pass the book to them. But, I definitely enjoy watching sci-fi/fantasy movies so I will be checking this one out, especially since it has Harrison Ford in it! Look forward to more reviews from you in the future :)

    1. Thank you for making short script of my title and Harrison Ford did a good job for his part but the movie feels kind of soulless but it is ok though the book is better it is very deep and darkish so if deep and darkish is your thing you should read it. From RD

    2. RD, I agree books are usually better than movies but I cannot get through a sci-fi/fantasy novel, no matter what! I'm glad you enjoy reading them and are willing to share your opinions. It's important for us older folks to know what books we can get for our kids and grandkids that are decent reads.

  8. Oh wow, I took a college class or maybe 2 with Orson Scott Card. I think it was some kind of drama class at BYU. But hey, that was MANY moons ago! It would be great fun to read this one!

  10. Hi, Review Dude!!

What a wonderful review you've written!! I'm looking forward to future reviews from you on OWG and please don't forget to let me know when you get your own blog going and where to find it!!

Sci-Fi and Fantasy aren't my favorite book genres, however - I have a granddaughter and nieces and nephews (of varying ages) who would probably love "Ender's Game" and I'd love to win a copy for them!! Is there a recommended age range or is the book for everyone?? From the Christian/bibliotherapy aspects included in "Ender's Game" - I'd venture a guess that it's a book that would be appreciated by and helpful for many, perhaps even me!! Your review has piqued my interest!!

    Thank you, Review Dude!!

  11. Marian--Review Dude liked your comment best but since you are an OWG contributor he has to pick another actual winner. We both think it is interesting that Sonja went to school with Orson Scott Card. Plus Review Dude is glad I admitted I was wrong!

  12. WOW! This reviewer is only 12? Review Dude, you did a great job. you didn't leave anything out. I couldn't do that. I'm not into this sort of thing but my grandkids all love these games. My grown kids still like the fantasy things. They all loved the Star War type movies, and etc and still do. Thanks for such a well done review. Maxie > mac262(at)me(dot)com <
