Carrie Fancett Pagels Interviews Tracie Peterson

Author Tracie Peterson

Tracie Peterson is the author of over 99 books including MINER’S LADY.
Tracie, welcome to Overcoming With God.  We appreciate your willingness to share your testimony of overcoming with our readers. Tracie, your Minnesota series will be on my 2013 Favorites list, next week, here on OWG!

Would you tell us about the most difficult thing in your life you have had to overcome, with God’s help?
Answer:  Wow, there have been so many truly life changing difficulties and in each case God has deepened my faith.  When I was expecting my third child, the doctors told me that the baby would be hopelessly deformed and would most likely die shortly after birth.  The doctor’s tried to pressure me to abort, but as a Christian woman, I didn’t believe this was the answer. My husband and I prayed a great deal and though the situation didn’t change – encouragement wasn’t offered and the doctors continue their desire for me to abort.  It was just before Christmas when I got this bad news and I was participating in a Christmas choir program.  As I sat praying in the church and waiting to practice a portion of the program, I felt overwhelmed about this unborn child.  I begged God to give me peace and He did.  The choir began to sing, “For unto us a child is born…unto us a son is given.”  I felt God’s comfort pour over me and knew that not only would everything be all right – no matter the outcome – and that we would have a son. The next year on Mother’s Day I delivered a healthy son.  It had a most difficult time of trusting God and waiting.  The doctors couldn’t give me exact answers and it seemed that everywhere I turned – folks discouraged me about the pregnancy, but God was stronger and able to pull my focus to Him.  I couldn’t resist praising God as I showed my perfect son off to the doctors who’d wanted him to die.
The Miner's Lady by Tracie Peterson

Disability friendliness:
Most of my books are available on audio and large print.  Miner’s Lady is definitely available in both formats as well as ebook.
(CFP: I will be reviewing 3 audiobooks in this series, this week!)

In this latest work, do you have any topics useful for bibliotherapy, or therapeutic influence through reading about a disorder or situation?
Answer:  the therapeutic influence is mostly spiritual.  I have two families who bear each other a long term grudge and through God’s intercession and the love of two young couples there comes healing for the hearts of those involved.  All of my books have themes of forgiveness, mainly because I’ve had much forgiven me and I’ve been called to forgive much.

Thank you, Tracie, for agreeing to answer these questions.  Have a blessed day and keep on writing!!

Giveaway: This week we will be giving away three giveaways this week. We have reader's choice of a  copy of any of Tracie’s books new books—audiobook, ebook, or paperback. We'll have another giveaway on the two reviews, and we'll have a birthday party for Diana Flowers on Friday with another giveaway, so come on by!

Like” Tracie’s Amazon page (click here) and put L after your comment to have your entry count 3 times. Answer this question—Did you ever have a doctor recommend a test that would threaten your unborn child’s life or recommend that you terminate a pregnancy and you did not? What was your outcome?

  1. I have never had to make a choice regarding an unborn child. The nearest I came to ths, was when I had a miscarriage and they were going to do a D&C--they had talked about the possibility that there were twins and that only 1 was having trouble, so I made them affirm that there was NOT a 2nd baby, before allowing them to do the D&C.
I have enjoyed reading Tracie Peterson's other books--this sounds like another great one--I would love to win one of her books! Thanks for these giveaway's!
You know how to reach me--and I liked Tracie's Amazon page for extra entries--I didn't know you could like someone's Amazon page.... ;-)

    1. I forgot to answer the question. I was over 30 when I had my sons so the doctor wanted to do the Amniocentesis test but I refused because I trusted God completely no matter the outcome.

    2. Teresa, I hear you. One of the doctors insisted I have amnio with my son. I didn't want to, but those people drove me hard to have it and finally my husband felt we should give in. I told the specialist that was to do the procedure that I didn't believe God wanted me to risk my baby this way, but that I felt confident He could keep my unborn child safe. Keep in mind this was a specialist who had never missed being able to get aminiotic fluid. But he couldn't get it on me. He was so angry and frustrated and wanted me to come back, but my sweet hubby said "No way. We did it your way once, and now we're doing it God's way." I'm so blessed to know you're enjoying the books, Teresa

  3. Thank you TRACIE, for visiting with us. I was a high risk pregnancy with our son. The specialist's team wanted us to have an amnio "in case." My hubs came with me. We told her--in case of what? We'll still have this child regardless PLUS you would be putting risk to our baby to test him. The young lady blinked at us. REally! Like she couldn't believe we'd refuse this test they recommended. We were like. No. Don't need it. And we walked out hand in hand!

  7. What an amazing testimony, TRACIE!! Thank you for being with us this week on OWG! I'm so glad you waited things out and trusted God. That took a lot of courage and strength, but I love how God gave you comfort and assurance at the Christmas program. That was so awesome!

I have had experiences like that a lot. Some people, to whom spiritual things are foolishness, say it was coincidence - but we, who know our God - know better. God bless you my dears.

  9. In 2003 we were given the news that our unborn daughter had Trisomy 18.
We started seeing different specialists. They all confirmed what we had already
Been told. Our unborn girl had Trisomy 18. The worse form of it. She only had
One kidney and it was covered in polycystic. Three major heart defects.
She was missing the cerebellum part of the brain.
My health started declining. We had to end up having an induction at 22 weeks.
We had three boys at home to consider. I was at risk of not surviving.
On August 26, 2003 we said goodbye to our baby girl Elizabeth Rose.
One day I pray I will hold her again in Heaven.

  10. Hi, Tracie, & Carrie!

The only problems that I had with my pregnancies were: (1) one of my children being born breech, &, (2) having frequent blood work done with the first pregnancy because of the danger of a problem with the RH factor (I was first told there was a possibility of a problem, then later - that everything was OK). God took care of the problem - in both situations!

Your story is inspiring, Tracie! I'm sure it WAS difficult to trust God, & wait, through-out the 9 months - even after God had reassured you - nine months is a long time to wait, other people's comments, & opinions, make it easier to doubt. But God rewarded your decision with a healthy baby boy!

The number of books you have written, is mind-boggling - given all the work, & time, that is involved! They have inspired SO many people! Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy of one!

  12. I don't have any children, but my youngest great-nephew was born with his intestines twisted and knotted. Usually a baby does not make it through that. One day my brother called and said it did not look that he would make. The baby had been through several surgeries and we had people praying. My brother was a minister even though he was not preaching at this time; he'd always had a deep love for God and a tremendous amount of faith. My niece ask my brother to go in one more time to pray for the baby and he called for my Mom and I to start praying. After those prayers, the baby health started turning around. He's now a happy seven year old boy and he's only had one surgery when he was small. It was a blockage and he hasn't had anymore surgeries.

  17. I never had an abortion or risky test recommended, but I did have 72 hours of hospital labor. Then my 10 lb., 7 oz., 23" long son had respiratory problems from the long labor and had to be put in a incubator made for premies. The doctors said he may be brained damaged, but everything turned out fine. He was a healthy boy and in the academically gifted program at school. God blessed/

God is ultimately in control, praise His name. I praise Him for the beautiful outcome you had!!!
I haven't had an experience like that. But when I was in hospital at 30 wks pregnant with contractions that wouldn't settle, I did hear God say clearly to me after I'd prayed, "Don't worry. Your baby will NOT be born early." Sure enough, my daughter Kelly was born 2 weeks overdue!

  24. Thanks so much for sharing, Tracy. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 8 weeks. We were devastated! I was 34 at the time. I felt so strongly that the Lord would bless us with a child, that I prayed the I would at least be pregnant by the time this first baby would have been born. I was! The difficulties did not end, however, as my blood pressure started to go up and up. At 32 weeks I was seeing spots before my eyes, and not doing very well at all. I had an emergency C-section and we had our daughter. She was 3 lbs. 10 oz. They had no choice, since she was not even moving and they were afraid I was going to die. She spent 5 weeks in the hospital - one in the NICU, when I finally got to hold her, and then moved from an incubator to a regular cot to home!! She was 4 lbs. 14 oz. when we brought her home. We were living in Canada at the time, and she came home on Canadian Thanksgiving! Needless to say, we had and have much to be thankful for. She is graduating from college this week. I was told at the time, that it would not be a good idea to get pregnant again. We were not so sure we agreed with that, but obviously the Lord did, since He never blessed us with another child.
I love your books, Tracie and live in MN. I most certainly want to read this new series...lol Thanks so much for the giveaway. Merry Christmas.

  26. No, I never had a doctor recommend a test that would threaten my unborn child's life nor have I ever had a doctor or anyone want me to terminate a pregnancy. With that being said, I just want to thank Tracie for sharing her powerful testimony. When we rely on others instead of God that can be a dangerous situation. Tracie your post was very touching and brought me to tears. My heart aches for a family member that did terminate a pregnancy not because of any medical reason but because the doctor thought she was too young to raise a child. The parents agreed with the doctor and their grandchild was terminated. Just two years later this same young person was pregnant again. What lesson did she learn? Like I said, my heart aches.

    Blessings and Merry Christmas!

    1. It is horrible how we think that abortion is some kind of solution. And if you are too young--give the baby up for adoption. What a world we live in.

      Delete
    2. Judy, there are so many stories like that out there. So many young people and older ones a like who believe they can forego bearing the burden of their consequences. However, abortion is NEVER a victimless situation. The mother suffers whether it's immediately apparent or doesn't surface for years. I hope this young person will get into counseling and learn better what it is she's looking for.

  29. I've always refused the amniocentesis test. On one of my miscarriages that was found at a routine checkup rather than actually beginning to miscarry, the doctor wanted to do the D&C that hour! First, I'm like "whoah, let me process dude." and then also I wanted to make sure-- though two strange things that had happened the day prior (loss of desire to eat in the middle of the night and this strange feeling of disconnect) told me it was likely true plus I watched the ultrasound), but you know, I've heard of babies seeming to be dead and alive later, so I waited the weekend and required him to do another ultrasound. And the baby had shrunk visibly which gave me peace to know that we hadn't made a mistake. And the female nurse took extra time with me and got us some lovely 3D picture of him that helped so much to know that he was here for a short time. I had liked Tracie's Amazon page already. :)
