In this, her debut novel Lori Benton takes us on an
adventure to the New York Frontier, the year is 1784, just past the time
America has claimed her independence from England. Here we are introduced to a beautiful young
woman born Wilhelmina Obenchain, who was snatched from her home at the age of
14 and adopted by a band of Mohawk Indians. After losing her husband to the war
and her children to smallpox she decides to head back to the land of the white
man and see if she can find her parents. Can Willa leave behind her identity of
Burning Sky, and once again live as Willa Obenchain? Will there be anyone to
welcome her home?
When Willa gets to the boundary stone of her papa's
land all she finds is a man lying unconscious and a rundown cabin with no signs
of her family anywhere. What could have happened to her parents and Grandmother,
and who is this man laying on her Father's land?
When Scotsman Neil MacGregor, a doctor and botanist,
finally wakes up he is surprised to find a beautiful woman dressed in the very
strange clothing, taking care of him. Who is this woman named Wilhelmina
Obenchain? Why does he feel drawn to her? Knowing Neil can't travel yet with
his hurt arm Willa lets him stay with her until his arm heals. Even when it
heals will Neal be able to leave Willa behind?
Not everyone from Willa's past has welcomed her home,
Richard Waring the young man who had thoughts of marrying Willa before she was
taken, is one of them. Since the atrocities of war Richard has been a changed
man and not for the good. He informs Willa that her parents were Tories and
since they haven't been seen since the war her father's land has been seized and
is going to be sold at auction and he is going to be the one to buy it. The
only way she can save her land is to prove him wrong. How can she if she can't
find her parents and she has no other living relatives?
Tames-His-Horse has loved Burning Sky from the
moment he was given a vision of her before she was taken by his people. He had
thought she was going to be his wife until she was adopted into the same Wolf
Clan as he. Now that she has gone back to the white world he wants to persuade
her to come away with him where no one will know they are of the same clan and
he can take care of her like he has longed to do all these years. Will he be
able to persuade her to leave with him or will their enemies extract their
twisted justice on them both before she can decide?
I have to say I loved, loved, loved this book!! From
the beginning where you see a strong but broken young woman daring to go back
to a place she may never be welcomed. Then all the way through to the ending
where you see an even stronger woman who made the hardest decision of her life
and she came out victorious! What a story this was! Lori is certainly going to
be added to my list of favorite authors, I can't wait to see what comes next!! Thank
you Lori for a fabulous read that deeply touched my heart!

We had a wonderful friend who died of lymphoma few years ago...was sad... I am so glad your here Lori , God has let you be here to bless us, that is for sure and for certain. Its not that Jim had no testimony , but even in dying he loved the Lord and blessed us all... It is written " to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord " , what joy to be with the Lord, but Sis, he wasn't finished with your story yet... and I cannot wait to read the book..Would love to have the ebook on my kindle so I can read it at night with no lights on..smile. Your a wonderful person and Sister in the Lord, your testimony so strong and touching to all who read it...

Great review..although sometimes I don't like to read reviews if they tell story in them.. I like honest opinions rather then story line.. IMHO Smile
LINDA thanks for coming by! I try not to tell more than the blurb hints at, or maybe just a little more, wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone. I promise there is more to the story than what's in my review!

PATTY thank you for stopping by and I hope you get to read this fabulous book! I know you will enjoy it! Good luck in the drawing!
DeleteI have read Lori's inspiring testimony & congratulate her on the remission of her disease.
ReplyDeleteThis book intrigues me in numerous ways, & I am also drawn to it because I am a descendant of the controversial Blue Jacket (Marmaduke VanSwearingen - a white man), who is rumored to have been captured by indians, bartered with them to let his younger brother loose, lived with them, & was made a war chief because they were impressed with his bravery. There was an outdoor drama about his life, for a number of years, in Lima, Ohio. It is said that he was renamed Blue Jacket because of the blue jacket he was wearing when captured.
I am drawn to the descriptions & situations of the unusual characters in this book & would love to read it! Thanks!
