Most of mine are not new summer releases. It takes a tad longer to get them on audiobook, my preferred mode of reading.
Tamera Alexander's "Within My Heart" was amazing and my top audiobook listen this spring. I highly recommend it if you have not already read this book. Am going to try another of hers, "A Lasting Impression."
Jill Marie Landis's Irish Angels (reconstructionist Louisiana) orphans series, Zondervan. I finished the third book, am listening to the first now, "Heart of Glass" and plan to download the middle book, "Heart of Lies" in June. Excellent series so far!
Just finished Dan Walsh's first two audiobooks. Great listens!
Karen Witemeyer's upcoming release "Short Straw Bride." I finished the last, "To Win Her Heart", which was super.
Vannetta Chapman's "A Perfect Square." If this ends up like the first audiobook, it will be one with "sticking" power.
Kim Vogel Sawyer's "Courting Miss Amsel" was great - just finished it. So I downloaded "Song of My Heart" for this summer. It released on audiobook in late February, 2012.
Robin Lee Hatcher's "Belonging" is one I downloaded recently through audible.com. She has an awesome testimony. Can't wait to hear what her books sound like.

I haven't listened to a fiction audiobook. I only listened to The Life and Diary of David Brainerd on mp3 cd. It was great to listen while we were driving in our car. But I'm not someone who will easily listen to a book when I'm at home. I prefer to read.

I'm currently reading Short-Straw Bride and it's wonderful, probably my favorite of Karen Witemeyer's so far! I've also got A Lasting Impression on my kindle that I'm planning to read soon and absolutely can't wait for Veil of Pearls!

my aunt has had a cerebral hemorrhage, and lost almost all her site, she love's to read, but is not able to any more. I think I would make her very happy with an audio book. :)

ReplyDeleteMARIAN, does that hold for Dutch books, too? I was wondering if it was because of listening to an English recording. My French is not so good, but I can read far better than I could ever understand by listening, especially with the various accents.

ReplyDeleteI watch American movies without subtitles, so as long they don't talk too fast or with a heavy accent I can understand it all.
I tried listening to an audiobook once or twice and it wasn't for me. I enjoy the print books the most :)

I am also looking forward to Karen Witemeyer's Short-Straw Bride (what a title). I loved To Win Her Heart, another awesome title! She just gets what it takes to draw out her reader's emotions and her stories capture mine every time :)

KARA, It is so much quicker for normal sighted folks to just read a book. But with my trifocals and all the hours I spend typing on the computer, audiobooks are the thing for me. I listen while I am doing housework. Vannetta's new book is starting out great. I am listening to three at the same time right now, lol! Oh, don't miss Within My Heart - especially if you also write. Carrie, great list! I think I have read most of Tamera's books, but may have missed this one, am not sure, it's been awhile. Will have to go to Amazon and read the blurb. One of Tamera's (From a Distance) will be free on Kindle June 1 and 2, so everyone needs to keep their eyes peeled for that one.

Landis's series (the one that you mentioned, CARRIE) on Kindle and need to get started on that as soon as I get caught up on Net Galley reviews that are nearing release date.

ReplyDeleteSHERRINDA, my hubby does too but lots of times I have to pick them up for him. He works a lot and a long commute and insists on doing the yard work, too. Plus he runs our son to scouts, etc.

I agree with Liz R, Short Straw Bride, is my favorite from Karen Witemeyer so far.
I am eager to read Veil of Pearls this summer.

I've only listened to a few audio books. My favorite was The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, it was a delightful experience(I listened to it twice, it was so good.). I love Mary Lu's books, so please add me to the giveaway. Thanks!

MERRY, I have never listened to one, unless you count the computerized voice on Kindle. I have heard there is no comparison in the sound quality. lol Here's hoping for a win for you. You will love Veil of Pearls!

ReplyDeleteThe only book I've ever listened to on audio is the Bible. From January to April, I would sit and sew (pillowcase dresses for a mission project) and listen to the New Testament on my headphones. It was a great time to listen to an audio book... I wasn't as distracted as I would normally be.
ReplyDeleteHistoricals are very popular right now. I've been reading a lot of them lately and sadly, I grew weary of them. It seemed that I kept selecting historicals with similar plotlines. So when I picked up Within My Heart by Tamara Alexander, I groaned and said "Another historical." Thankfully, that sentiment didn't last long. Within five pages, I realized that this was not just another historical.
ReplyDeleteAlexander masterfully creates the world of Rachel Boyd and Dr. Rand Brookston. Rachel is a widower raising two boys and trying to run her and her late husband's ranch. Dr. Rand Brookston is the doctor for the small town of Timber Ridge but has dreams of being more.
This book was full of unique twists and turns that it sets it in a different category than other historicals. Most books I've read focus more a specific time period, but Within My Heart presents wonderful characters and engaging storylines. Alexander portrays death in dying in a way I don't think I've ever seen in Christian fiction. She tells the story of loss that presents a perfect balance between sadness and hope.
