Diana Flowers Reviews A Heart Revealed by Julie Lessman

5 stars~*****
Another Jewel by Julie!
In A Heart Revealed, Julie Lessman has crafted another wonderfully humorous, poignant, heartrending, angst-filled tale involving all of the characters we so fell in love with in The Daughters of Boston and Winds of Change Series-the O'Connor family. Emma Malloy, Charity O'Connor Dennehy's "friend of the heart" is now living in Boston, having fled an abusive marriage to Rory Malloy, a man who has left Emma scarred both inside and out. Emma's gentle, godly spirit is loved by all, and she feels a part of the O'Connor family, but carries a deep secret-a secret born out of a need for love and acceptance.

Sean O'Connor, Charity's brother, is also a man burdened down with long festering secrets, and resigns himself to the single life because of them. Although he finds himself drawn to the beautiful Emma, and she to him, the fact that she is married keeps them apart, as well as the deceitfulness and dark secrets that hover between them.

Will Sean learn to accept the love of his Heavenly Father, and find peace for his soul?...and will Emma learn to love herself as God loves her, and realize she is beautiful, both inside and out? Is there a chance for these two wounded souls to ever find love together, or will the arrival of another man in Emma's life, take her out of Sean's forever?

Julie Lessman has done it again! I loved this story full of rich humor, raw human emotions, love, and forgiveness! I enjoyed the subplots involving the beloved members of the O'Connor family, and didn't realize how much I had missed them.

I went through a whole gamut of emotions while reading this book; heartache, sadness, joy, shock---nobody can tell a story quite like Julie! A truly wonderful masterpiece from the pen of Julie Lessman...again.

Julie's books are available for purchase through Amazon, CBD, and other book sellers.

  2. All of Julie's books are absolute jewels--I haven't read one yet I didn't love. But my favorite has to be her very first, "A Passion Most Pure." Like Faith O'Connor, I'm a writer with a mild disability who is determined to do romantic love God's way (still single, but...) :) Anyway, it's been a long time since I identified so strongly with a character. P.S.--I love the Irish thread in the books, as well.

  96. Diana - Happy Diana Week! Thanks for the fun post on Julie's book.

I LOVE books where secrets from the past keep us from joys of the future... because too many times I've seen that story played out in the lives of believers who've bought into the devil's lie that we can never be good enough or pure enough or righteous enough to have that joy. Books like these offer another ending - hope. Thank you, Julie, for your tireless ministry of hope in the form of fiction.

I would love a copy of this book!

  103. HOLLY ... yes, it would be fun to see the O'Connor guys on the covers, but the only problem is that who I envision them as is NEVER who they look like on the cover, so I'm okay with them NOT being on the covers of the 2nd series. Because let's face it, they will NOT all look like Collin ... But you have given me an idea, girl!! I always pick out celebrity pix of who I think my hero and heroines look like, so maybe I will put their pix on a separate page on my website -- wouldn't that be cool???

BEV!!! SOOOOO good to see you here, my friend, and I'm hoping it nets you a win!! Thanks for your kind words, but MOSTLY for your precious friendship!!

DIANA SAID: "I told Julie before that Faith was the epitomy of what a Christian woman should be in how she handled things with prayer and submission to God, so much so that I felt like I needed to get saved again! lol"

DIANA, LOL!! Saved again??? Oh, girl, that's me on a daily basis and I based Faith on MY spiritual side, so what does THAT tell you??? Of course, Charity is based on my carnal side, so talk about a Civil War!!;)

    Hugs,
    Julie

  105. Gosh, MARISSA, I sure hope you think it's worth the wait!! I went through 30 Kleenex editing the galleys, and I usually only go through about 12, but I'm a weepy type and this IS the last O'Connor book ... that is, until Marcy and Patrick's prequel comes out for this Christmas!! :)

KATHLEEN, only half??? For some reason I was thinking you were full-blood Irish, but heck, I'm only a quarter, but to be honest, I'm grateful for that!! My grandmother's name was Cavanaugh. My sister married a full-blooded Irishman named Laughlin, and her four girls are called Maggie, Kelly, Erin and Bridget. Doesn't get much more Irish than that ... :) GOOD LUCK, DARLIN'!!

LOL, RACHELLE ... then you are missing out, girlfriend, because Julie K is simply THE BEST, so you need to go leave a comment on Julie K's review which was yesterday, okay?? BUT ... because of your comment here, you are also in the running for one of my books (Julie Lessman). Julie K is Jane Ayerish and I am a wee bit spicier ... ;)

    Hugs,
    Julie

  106. JULIE you are so funny! After those descriptions of Faith and Charity all I can see is the little cartoon angel and devil sitting on your shoulders! Poor Charity made me think bad thoughts and I must confess it took me awhile to warm up to her and now I adore her! :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. J:-)MI and GANISE, nice to see you here! Good luck in the giveaway!

  108. JULIE, LOL!...being human, I would venture to say we all have part FAITH-part Charity in all of us!

  109. AW, PATTY, your comment makes me smile -- THANK YOU!! And believe it or not, I am TRYING to write them faster!! In my last contract, I requested that my books come out every nine months rather than every twelve, so the next three will be on that schedule. BUT ... between the last O'Connor book this October (A Love Surrendered), my Marcy/Patrick prequel out this September called A Light in the Window: An Irish Christmas Love Story AND the first book of my new series, Love at any Cost out April 1st, I will have THREE BOOKS RELEASING WITHIN SIX MONTHS!!! So I AM trying, I promise!! Good luck in the contest, darlin'!

DIANA, you have NO idea how often people confuse Julie K and me!! I just wish the confusion would set in at the checkout counter, you know??? I wrote a GREAT Seeker blog about Julie K and I -- how I stalked her Amazon #s when we both debuted at the same time with the same publisher and I got SO jealous that I had to fast Amazon and prayed for Julie K to go to the Bestseller List, and lo and behold, she did!! Of course, I'm not taking ALL the credit ... ;) But the story is a great one, ESPECIALLY when we met for the first time in the bathroom at ACFW ... Here's the link if anybody is interested in reading it:

OH, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PART 2

    Hugs,
    Julie

  110. JENNIFER!!!! Okay, you are officially my new best friend, girl, after a comment like that!!

And the truth is I don't want to just make you FEEL like we are always friends, but I want you to KNOW that we are always friends!! You see, the way I look at it, anybody who is as passionate about my books as I am, is the type of person I want to be friends with forever because that means we have A LOT in common and think the same way on God and romance, two of my favorite things.

So, anyone who 1.) takes the time to read my books and 2.) takes the time to contact me and encourage me like you did, THAT is the type of person I want to know and be friends with, and that's you, girlfriend, so THANK YOU and GOOD LUCK in the contest!!

LINDA, ALWAYS!!! I will ALWAYS toss your name in for a book, my friend, because you are one of my FAVES!! GOOD LUCK, sweetie!!

    Hugs,
    Julie

  111. DIANA SAID: "I think JULIE is one of the warmest, kindest, funniest ladies in the world, and her writing ain't half bad either."

UH=OH ... Diana may have just bumped Jennifer as my new best friend ... ;) Seriously, thank you, Diana, for your kind words ... they are SO nice to hear even if they are a little hard to buy on my end ... ;)

MORGAN ... consider yourself entered, sweetie, and GOOD LUCK!!

ANNA W. ... same with you, girlfriend -- you're in the draw, so GOOD LUCK!!

    HUGS,
    Julie

  112. LOL, CARRIE ... I would have been better off with your apples and wheat-free soup!! But I didn't do TOO badly ... only ate half my hamburger (saved the other half for my better half and gave him most of the cheddar) and a salad with low-cal, so I'm proud of myself!!

LAURA!!!! LOL ... girl, we have SUCH a mutual admiration society, don't we, though??? I honestly have NEVER connected with ANYONE at ACFW like I did with Laura upon first meeting. It was as if God said, "I've anointed her to be your friend," which, come to think of it, people might just need the grace of God to get TOO close to me, you know?? ;) Laura, I love you to pieces, and you know that, and your words -- AS ALWAYS -- mean more than I can say. Thanks for coming by, my friend!

And just for the record, Laura IS one of my FAVORITE authors in the whole world and in this world of sky-high TBR lists due to endorsement and review requests where I get TONS of free books, Laura is one of the very few authors that I actually BUY her books because she is simply a must read ALWAYS!! ;)

    HUGS,
    JULIE

  113. DIANA, what an awesome review!
And what a LOT of comments today! :)

JULIE great to see you here again!

  114. JULIE, loved the story about you and JULIE K., and if we were all honest with ourselves we would have done exactly the same thing starting out! What a sweet and funny story.

I use to read reviews and I would just cringe b/c I would compare them to mine and mine would always be the one lacking in my eyes. Until I came to that same moment that you came to...my reviews are in God's hands, He is the one who enables me to write them, and they come straight from my heart, let it go. To think any different is pride, b/c lack of confidence is a form of pride as well as comparing with others. So now I just read reviews for a different reason...and rejoice when I read a really great one! It's like---WOW...

  115. ANONYMOUS DD JORDAN ... my FAVORITE kind of commenter ... someone who has NOT read my books!!! There is nothing I like better than introducing someone to the passionate O'Connor family, so if you don't win here, DD, come back next week to this same blog for another shot at it, okay? Also, if and when you do read my books, PLEASE start with book 1, A Passion Most Pure, because this is a family saga/series that is best read in order due to a number of big surprises, okay? Good luck and hope I get to send you a book!!

EMILY!!! One of my winners from my "Have a character named after you" contest!! Thank you SOOO much for telling Elyssa about me AND trying to get my books in her hands!! Remind her that next week on this same blog we're having ANOTHER giveaway, so that's two chances, sweetie! Thanks for coming by and GOOD LUCK!! P.S. I'm going to start proofing the final galleys on A Love Surrendered TOMORROW, and I'll be putting you name in, girlfriend!! ;)

DANA!!! PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR SKIPPING YOU UP ABOVE!!! I had to leave early, but I was trying so hard to reply to all comments that I must have skipped right over you, sweetie!! You said, "You know a series is great when you miss the characters. :)" Thank you SO much because that blesses the socks off of me, girl!! I miss my characters, too, especially after I finished writing Steven's story, the last of the O'Connor saga. Which is why it was SO much fun to write Marcy and Patrick's prequel right after it. BUT ... I am happy to say that I think you will LOVE the McClares!! I am really quite excited about this series and really love this family too. They are the polar opposite of the O'Connors, but kind of fun and eccentric, so I hope you "miss" them too when you are done reading. :) Good luck in the contest, my friend. :)

    Hugs,
    Julie

  117. TERESA SAID: "May this turkey please have one of those Turkey Sanwiches!"

LOL ... you are TOO cute, you little turkey!! :)

ASHIEMAY SAID: "I must say Julie is probably my favorite author. Her stories truly have helped change my thinking that true love is lost in this world."

Okay, ASHIE, you get the prize for being the first person to make me tear up today, girlfriend!! That blesses the socks off of me because I am LIVING PROOF that "true love" is alive and well in this world, but ONLY with Christ in the center!! Every single day, my husband and I fall deeper and deeper in love -- God's truth!! We are IN AWE of how God has knit us together and blessed us abundantly, exceedingly more than we hope, think or pray!! You may or may not know that Marcy and Patrick's marriage is based on my husband's and mine, so when I write these stories about enduring, deep, abiding love between a man a wife, they are FACT, not fiction because I've been there and the answer is CHRIST IN THE MIDDLE and APPLICATION OF HIS PRECEPTS, not just in a marriage, but in every relationship we have. Thank you SO much for your beautiful comment, and I hope it nets you a win, my friend!

    Hugs,
    Julie

  118. BECKY DOUGHTY SAID: "I LOVE books where secrets from the past keep us from joys of the future... because too many times I've seen that story played out in the lives of believers who've bought into the devil's lie that we can never be good enough or pure enough or righteous enough to have that joy."

OH, AMEN, BECKY -- PREACH IT, GIRL!!! I'm with you -- satan robs of SO much when we believe his lies because it has NOTHING to do with how good we are, but how good God is to each of us He calls His own. We are SO blessed and SO full of Hope, but only because of HIM, so I will continue to write my stories accordingly. :)

MARYLU!!!! Sisters forever!!! Thank you SO much for coming by, my friend, and like I told Laura above, YOU are right at the top of my FAVES list as well. In fact, the three authors that I brag about and promote the most are you, Laura and Liz Curtis Higgs (along with two new adds, Cathy Gohlke and Lisa Bergren) because you three are flat-out the best out there in my opinion with passionate stories that stir this passion queen beyond anything else I read, truly. Love you!

LOL, TERESA ... you're not far off on that angel/devil on the shoulder routine, trust me!! And I am SO thrilled that you grew to love Charity. She is truly my favorite because she so reminds me of the mess I used to be and what God has done to redeem me!! :)

    Hugs,

HEY, MARIAN ... it's great to BE HERE again, trust me!! LOVE YOU GUYS!!

  125. NANCEE, I will gladly lend you my Kindle copies but the problem is you only get to have them for two weeks before they revert. Once you read JULIE's books you will become addicted. There is no giving up her books. I know because I resisted for so many years and succumbed this fall and read all of her books in something like eight or nine weeks! And they are not even comparables (which is what I am supposed to be reading!!!) Amazing talented writer!

  126. All right, for those lingering, Sweetie Boy has requested spaghetti, which just yesterday DIANA and I agreed was the WORST possible combo for people with inflammatory issues. Sigh... I am such a sucker for a cute face. I had to take a nap this afternoon after messing up his alarm clock and having it go off at 4:30 a.m.

    ReplyDelete
  127. CARRIE my tummy already sympathizes with you! I love spaghetti but it does not love me. ENJOY!

  128. I absolutely love Julie's books. I was introduced to them by a friend in book club. We read and discussed A Passion Most Pure. Fortunately for me, this friend had the other two books in the Daughters of Boston series so I could read them as well. I have both books in the Winds of Change series. Each book continues the story so well and just keep getting better. I'm looking forward to the next book this fall. I hope to someday have a complete Julie Lessman collection on my bookshelves.

I've only been married 34, but then I could land a husband till later in life, so obviously you were a looker early on! SUPER CONGRATS on 40 years!!

LOL, MELISSA B ... and I LOVE Melissa B!! Thanks SO much for coming by and here's hoping it nets you a win, my friend!

WHOO-HOO, NANCEE ... soooo glad Diana sparked your interest in my books and here's to a win Just remember ... if you don't win here, you can try again on this same blog next week when there will be another giveaway, so you go, girl!! 135. Well, well. Very interesting read above. Both the summary of the book and the comments. LOL I find it very interesting that (cringe) I've not heard much about Julie Lessman. Of course, that's no huge surprise, since I live in a FRENCH country. OY. Well, if I win, I win. But if I don't.....sigh. Maybe next time.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Great review! Julie Lessman is wonderful and I can't wait for the last O'Conner book (although I'm sad too). Thanks for the chance to win!

  137. Actually, JULIE, like I told CARRIE, we got married when I was two and our parents gladly signed for us. haha So that makes me only around 42 yrs old...yeah, right. Don't I wish!

LIZ-thank you...the thought makes me sad, too. :(

PAGE AFTER PAGE-I'm sure you will be hearing alot about Julie in France. After all the French are a very romantic people, and as Carrie just stated Julie is the queen of romance, so you definitely need her books in France, oui?

  143. PAGE AFTER PAGE -- Oh, how I LOVE new people who haven't heard about me or the O'Connors!!! If you would like to get a taste of my style, I encourage you to go to my EXCERPTS page of my website to check out my favorite romantic AND spiritual scenes in each of my books. My tagline is "Passion With a Purpose" because I am VERY high on passion in my books -- both for God and for romance. But a word of warning ... this is not Amish romance here WAY more passion, both romantically and spiritually, so if you are not in to stronger passion in a CBA book, then my books are not for you. But my excerpts will give you a taste.

I encourage you to check out the reviews on Amazon or CBD. Also, the first book in the series, A Passion Most Pure (which, if you decide to read this series, you should read first because this is a series best read in order) was American Christian Fiction Writers Debut Book of the Year for 2009. So I hope between Diana's review and my sales job, you check out my EXCERPTS page at JULIE'S EXCERPTS.

    GOOD LUCK in the contest!!

    Hugs,
    Julie

  144. Hey, LIZ, thank you, darlin' -- SO appreciate your kind words!! And I'm sad, too, but the O'Connors are like family to me now, so I'm sure I will be rereading them just to stay in touch, you know! :) And I will warn you that Steven's story is a tearjerker, so keep Kleenex handy!! :) Good luck in the contest! :)

JULES ... no, thank YOU, sweetie, for coming by and entering! Here's to a win! :)

BETH ... thank you SO much for being a "huge fan," although I prefer "reader friend" since that's what you are -- a reader who is now my friend and encourages me in the process. THANK YOU for that and GOOD LUCK in the contest!

CARRIE ... LOL!!! So "Sweetie Boy" is your son, eh? Boy, did I mess that up!! But I have to admit, your hubby's nickname intrigues me too -- "Wild Boy"!! Tell him he could be a Julie Lessman hero with that nickname ... ;)

    Hugs,
    Julie

  166. MICHELLE!!! Girlfriend, you have NO idea just how much I miss you too, truly!! And you KNOW you (and your family) are in my prayers too, my friend. And, YES, two books in one year, but also THREE BOOKS in a six-month span!!! And guess what??? My agent just called today (she's reading the prequel) and blew me away when she told me she's staying up late reading it and can barely get work done because it has the same pull over her as A Passion Most Pure did, so I am PUMPED!! Keith said the same thing, so hopefully my readers will love it too. :) Hope to talk to you soon on FB, darlin'!

MISS KALLIE!!! Goodness, I haven't done many giveaways this year, so it's so good to see some of my favorite commenters popping up. Unfortunately, this giveaway is over, but there is another on this same blog next week, so please check back or check my website, okay?

And YOU are one of my "favorite reader friends" as well, darlin' ... and hopefully soon an "author friend" too! ;)

Hey, LEAH, YES!!! Sooo glad you came by and intend to come by again next week. I am proofing the final galleys on A Love Surrendered now, and I hope you like it as much as I do! ;)
