England - the Middle Ages:

Eighteen-year-old Alexia D'Clere has work to do for God. Known as the Falcon of the Emerald Forest for her excellent archery skills, she is the Protector of the Spear - a spear tip which stabbed Christ and known for it's powers of wisdom and discernment. The equivalent of a female Robin Hood, she risks the penalty of hanging from a noose - her hunting game in the most lush of the king's forests and giving it to the underprivileged peasants of the village Luxley considered theft from the king.

Orphaned, and with rumors of a plot on her life, she has lived in hiding in the forest with father figure, friar Josef, for 10 years. Now believed to be deceased, Alexia poses as Mistress Bregley - herb gardener, maid, and minstrel to her seventeen-year-old sister Lady Christiana D'Clere, who resides in the family castle, Luxley Manor. Alexia's true purpose: uncovering the source behind the plot on her life, as well as determining the cause of her sister's health issues and night horrors, which have continually increased for two years. Friar Josef frequently reminds emotional, impatient Alexia to control her emotions, concentrate, hear the Spirit within, let patience prevail, and seek the light in others.

Feeling threatened while hunting, Alexia's archery wounds Sir Ronar Le Peine, a knight and member of the  Kings Guard, en route with the king's special confidant, Bishop Godfrey, and other members of the guard. Hiding life secrets of his own, Ronar is on a mission from the king to find and recover the Spear of Destiny, for use in fighting the king's enemies and rumored to be at Luxley Manor. Now striving to make his life count, he feels his lack of faith and pride have led to his downfall through God's punishment for his past sins, including straying from the teachings of the church and society.

Attracted to each other - Ronar seeks to discover the mystery of Alexia, she feeling Ronar belongs to God but doesn't know his own heart. They follow separate teachings - he the teachings of the church and the laws of man, she the teachings of God. Possessing the loving spirit of God, friar Josef has taught Alexia to follow God's leading and blind herself to the temporary world, while opening her eyes to the real world of the Spirit.

Although not a huge fan of medieval novels, I read 'She Walks in Power' due to the unusual storyline and my knowledge of the writing gift MaryLu Tyndall possesses to draw the reader in - no matter the setting, genre, or storyline. Her books hold something for every reader - vivid realistic characters, accurate historical content, beautifully detailed descriptions, romance, mystery, humor, adventure, forgiveness and redemption, hope, and a strong thread of faith. Keeping me totally enthralled and engrossed, the beautiful storyline of 'She Walks in Power' left me with a sigh of contentment and a re-confirmation of God's love and protection.

  1. Thank you, BONNIE, for the lovely review of this amazing story! I was hesitant about reading a medieval era book (not usually my fave), but upon doing so I realized there just isn't any genre MaryLu can't write! As long as she doesn't write any Amish vampires on the moon, I'm good. LOL!

  4. Great review Bonnie!
I too was not sure how this book would be as medieval is not a genre I would pick to read. However, since I know from reading other great books by MaryLu I took a chance and read it. I certainly was surprised (really should not have been) at the depth of the characters, love the inspirational elements woven within this fantastic storyline! Wow, great book!

  9. I followed Marylu's blog prior to the release of She Walks in Power and the bits of information she released about the characters and story line had me hooked.

Please tell me that there are others that feel the way I do when I'm beyond excited for the release of a new book like this one that's been on my radar. I, seriously, will feel a heaviness in my chest mixed with antsy euphoria, like the feeling I would get if I haven't seen my husband for a month and he's coming home. It's the anticipation of a strong faith message mixed with redemption and a slow burn romance. Who needs drugs when you have God and a good book. Ok, so I might be the odd one, but I'm owning it. haha tlhcoupon(at)hotmail(dot)com

    1. Oh, Terrill - thank you for that wonderful description of a reader's euphoria over an anticipated book release!! No, you aren't alone in experiencing those feelings - for readers there is just something, a "high" if you will, about a wonderful new book that non-booklovers can't understand. The same with the fellowship between one reader and another reader, or between author and reader, I think. Is your husband one who understands your need to always have more books, LOL?? My family doesn't "get it" (especially since I have run out of space to put them, LOL), nor understand how I can spend hours on end reading, reviewing, and doing online prom for authors/books.

I totally agree - "who needs drugs when you have God and a good book". There surely is none better at combining the two than MaryLu!! 'She Walks in Power' is such a beautiful inspirational story - good luck, and thanks for your wonderful comments!!

    2. Bonnie, thank you for validating my book euphoria. I don't think my husband gets it, but he never complains. He even listens when I go on about a book he couldn't care less about. :) Now, that's love.

  20. LOL, I'm the opposite Bonnie --there can never be enough Christian medieval fiction! But glad you still enjoyed it anyway. Is this going to be a trilogy?

    1. Jafuchi7, aren't we blessed to have Christian fiction to satisfy the appetite of every Christian fiction reader?? I don't think MaryLu could write a book I wouldn't love, no matter the storyline or genre - the reason I own every book she has written, in both paperback and e-book, LOL!!

I do think there are to be more books in this series, although I'm not sure there won't be books in her other series written before the next one in this series. You can keep up-to-date on what she is writing by following her website: marylutyndall.com.

  23. MaryLu is a master at "unusual storylines", Amanda!! She has the ability to make those storylines a reader might not ordinarily read become some of their very favorite, as she has done with me. The characters, descriptions, historical content and faith elements are perfection!! Thanks for your beautiful comments - good luck, please stop by again.
