‘To Win Her Favorhas the reader racing through this story of hope, courage, and love, while negotiating obstacles such as bitter prejudice and hopelessness. Upon reaching the finish line, the reader reaps the reward of having read a tale that’s left an indelible imprint upon their heart and spirit.

Irishman Cullen McGrath departed England for a new beginning in Nashville. His aim was to buy land to farm and to stay as far as possible away from thoroughbred racing and the terrible scandal he left behind in England. If this trouble catches up with him, it could be life-shattering. However, with the Irish disparagingly looked upon as 'white Negroes' in post-civil war times, Cullen is finding it near impossible to purchase anything, let alone land. So when the aging Gilbert Linden makes him an enticing offer pertaining to his land and daughter, Cullen accepts the proposition, promising to always protect Gilbert's beloved daughter, Maggie.

Maggie would never have chosen Cullen as a husband. But left without a choice, she grudgingly goes along with this scheme. Maggie finds herself battling her own prejudices even as she is shocked by the severe bigotry from others. Feeling disheartened at being stuck in a loveless marriage with this foreigner, Maggie takes solace in racing her beloved horse Bourbon Belle and looks forward to entering her in the inaugural Peyton Stakes. But when Cullen finds out and puts an unyielding halt to her plans, she has to face giving up her dream. Where there seems to be no hope, and tragedy becomes all too frequent, will the lovely Maggie ever smile or dream again?

In this sizzling masterpiece of passion and heartache, author Tamera Alexander sets a fast and steady pace that engages the reader right to the exhilarating finale. Throughout, the plight of the Negroes and their sufferings were written with credibility and compassion, touching me deeply. Similarly, the appalling treatment of the Irish in these times was also thoughtfully reflected upon. Not all grave, ‘To Win Her Favor’ is lavishly tempered with charm, atmosphere, and a romance that will have you flipping open your southern fan! Highly recommended!

  15. I just loved your review, Noela, you have such a beautiful way of putting things into perspective. Thank you!!

Tamera is such a gifted writer and her books are always such a treat for the reader. I've read numerous wonderful comments re: "To Win Her Favor", and can't wait to read it - such a wonderful storyline!! Although some readers may be hesitant to read Christian Fiction books with controversial topics such as prejudice, those topics realistically portray the world of today. When written by an author led by God, I welcome them as an opportunity to better understand the problems of others and help in my reaching out to them. Kudos to you, Tamera!!

    1. Bonnie you are so right... Unfortunately, the topics of prejudice and racism are still just as prevalent today even if sometimes it is veiled. And many times, it's not. This is a book I wish everyone could read! Thanks for your kind words, Bonnie!
