A stunning, action-packed conclusion to an outstanding series!!

Venture into the steamy and breathtakingly lush Brazilian jungle in ‘Abandoned Memories’, a location  dense with verdant, lofty trees carrying vine-laden branches, while the tropical floor erupts with a flourish of ferns and a lavish array of colorful and fragrant flowers. Among the trees and azure sky, boasts an abundance of vibrant birds echoing their calls throughout the jungle. Amidst this majestic setting however, abides a dark and destructive evil that starkly contrasts with the picturesque beauty of the jungle..

In this third book of the ‘Escape to Paradise’ series, the third invisible malevolent being has recently been released from deep in the caverns below an ancient temple, bringing with it destruction and anguish to New Hope’s colonists. The group of colonists that had arrived in Brazil for a fresh beginning after the Civil War, strive to survive the deception, delusion, and devastation that threatens to completely destroy their budding utopia. But can they halt the release of the fourth and most apocalyptic beast while they fight for their survival? In time, the colonists wonder if perhaps there was a much higher purpose guiding them toward their escape to this unstable paradise.

Balancing the page-turning action, author MaryLu Tyndall brings us a stirring love story between two of the colonists, James and Angeline. These charismatic characters of tremendous depth have shameful pasts hidden from each other, pasts that affect them both in every measure of their lives. James longs to be the spiritual leader in a utopia free from immoral women, women that once led to his downfall. In love with Angeline, how will this preacher/reluctant-doctor handle Angeline’s sordid past when it’s revealed? The camaraderie between all the colonists is heart-warming, bristling with friction at times, and always engaging. Many of these folk have dreadful pasts that have damaged their lives with wounds that continue to bleed… will it be possible for this battered community to ever abandon their memories to make new ones?

Wow, what a story! ‘Abandoned Memories’ is packed with as much excitement, adventure, and love, as there is foliage in the overgrown jungle. The author uses the vivid strokes of a master artist’s brush to effortlessly transcend the words on the page into striking colours, sounds, and aromas. Emotionally, I found my heart swelling, throat clogging, and spirit rejoicing! And that’s when my pulse wasn’t racing, although those reactions sometimes eventuated within moments of each other, giving credit to the author’s expertise. Last but certainly not least, inspirational and relevant spiritual messages of redemption & forgiveness are strongly featured. Highly recommended!!

What a wonderful conclusion to this exciting series!! A Definite Must Read!!

MaryLu Tyndall has once again written a book that took my breath away.  Being taken back to the lush green jungles of Brazil was something I have looked forward to since I started this fabulous Escape to Paradise series. If you haven't read the two previous ones; Forsaken Dreams and Elusive Hope I would suggest you do so as you will be able to follow the storyline a lot better. Besides you don't want to miss Blake and Eliza, and Magnolia and Hayden's exciting stories.

It seems an evil presence is lurking in this magnificent jungle paradise that is seeking to destroy New Hope's residents. Even James Calloway, the runaway minister turned doctor is still having haunting dreams and visions from his past. James feels he is a failure at everything he has attempted in his life and if the people of New Hope were to ever find out about his past they wouldn't want him as their spiritual leader. Thank God that the anonymity of this group of strangers will allow it to stay buried in his past!

Angeline Moore thought when she joined this group of diverse members on their trek to Brazil there was no way anyone of them would know the person she used to be. If only that were true; being constantly haunted by visions of people from her former life has made Angeline realize maybe you can't out run your past after all. Especially when two men from her former life are living with this small group of transplants; one was probably too drunk to remember her and the other is just waiting for the right moment to expose her to all of her new friends!

Angeline knows she should stay away from James but there is something that draws her to him; could it be he is the one man that she can finally trust with her heart? What will happen if her past comes to light? Will James be able to deal with the fact Angeline has not always been the reserved woman she is now?

At the climatic ending of this amazing story Blake, Eliza, Magnolia, Hayden, James and Angeline realize God has led them to Brazil for a purpose far beyond what they could have ever dreamed. These six individuals who thought they were running away from their past were in fact walking into their destiny. Six people who were failures in man's sight were going to become God's mighty warriors used to defeat an evil so horrendous it could affect the whole world.

I have always looked forward to reading Ms. Tyndall's stories. Her flair for details draws me into the story and it's as though I am experiencing it up close and personal. There always seems to be just the right amount of adventure and romance that is tied together with a beautiful thread of God's love. This series was that and so much more. I know that Ms. Tyndall stepped out in faith when she decided to delve more into the spiritual realm in this series; I think she did a tremendous job of showing the fight that goes on around us each and every day; good versus evil. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12 Bravo MaryLu!! JOB WELL DONE!!!

JEHOVAH JIREH...The Lord Our Provider

JEHOVAH JIREH...The Lord Our Provider

But my God shall supply all your need according
to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19

In the seven weeks since we started on this journey with Carlton being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma there have been numerous times GOD has shown himself to be JEHOVAH JIREH...The Lord Our Provider.

When we first found out about the cancer we were worrying about how we would pay the huge insurance deductible. I called the insurance company to inquire how the insurance would pay for the chemo because the doctor's office thought we would have to meet the deductible. The lady from the insurance company was very polite and helpful; she told me if the chemo was administered in the doctor's office it there would be a $40 co-pay for each treatment and the deductible wouldn't be required.  Later we also found out that the Leukemia/ Lymphoma Foundation had a grant we qualified for that would pay the co-pays. So all we have had to pay is $40 once every three weeks when Carlton sees the doctor. The co-pays for the chemo have been paid by the grant. GOD has truly been our Jehovah Jireh.

It never ceases to amaze me when I pick up my Bible there is always something "new" that catches my attention. I have been taking my Bible with me when I take Carlton for his treatments and it seems every morning GOD has provided some encouraging word for us. I want to share some of those scriptures that I have been relying on during this time: Psalm 28:6-9, Psalm 62:5-8, Psalm 115:13-15, Psalm 116:1-9, Jeremiah 29:11-13

Carlton has gotten more good news since my last update; the protein levels they use to track his cancer have dropped 362 points since starting his treatments. The doctor told us that he might be on chemo for 2 years; it will depend on whether he has a stem cell transplant or not. He will be going to the hospital in Charleston, SC possibly as early as next month to talk to about it. Once again we are going to rely on GOD providing everything we need during this time. Carlton has used all of his sick leave at his work so he will not be paid during the time he is having the transplant but as I have said since day one.......GOD'S GOT THIS!!

Prayer Request: We have met numerous people while at the infusion center that are in desperate need of prayer. This week we met a young couple that the husband was going to be admitted to the hospital for his treatments. His wife was very cautious in even saying what stage his cancer was, she mentioned Proverbs 18:21, so I knew she was a believer. I would ask that you please join with us in prayer for this family. I don't know their names but I know that GOD does.

~5 Stars~ *****

‘Captured by Love’ indulges the reader with the fascinating geographical location of Michilimackinac (Mackinac) Island of Michigan, and the engaging history that forms a bygone era when the British military controlled the American island during the Revolutionary war. During the occupation, the food resources were dangerously scarce for all, leaving the Islanders half-starved and the British soldiers faring even worse..

The dashing and humorously egotistical Pierre Durant, who was the head man of a fur brigade, arrives back home to Michilimackinac Island after being away for several years. Returning with a heavy burden of guilt, partly from being away so long from his mother, Pierre feels even worse upon discovering her undernourished, with a severe disability, and her farm in shambles. He helps where he can but is still torn between leaving her again, and the draw of the vast, beautiful wilderness and his adventurous life as a fur-trader. Meeting up with his childhood friend Angelique, who has grown into a beautiful woman whilst still retaining her youthful spirit, also makes Pierre’s decision whether to stay or leave, more conflicting… especially after his feelings for her begin to grow into something much more powerful. Complicating things however, is the fact that she is betrothed to his brother!

The tension and impact of the war soon escalate, and violence increases on the island. Angelique is at the mercy of her merciless step-father, and Pierre himself is in grave danger as the British discover his true loyalties. Can there be any resolutions to the divisions and dangers that separate them all so vastly?

There was plenty to admire and savor in ‘Captured by Love’. The story-line shifts with twists and turns, saturating the plot in intrigue and anticipation while leaving you with no idea how it will end. There are heart-in-throat moments and occasions that cause your emotions to swirl. The romance leaves you breathless and smiling. And the entertaining, playful bantering between the two fabulous main characters is immensely amusing. Spiritually, I came away with two character-building messages: To humble oneself and allow God to help, instead of trusting in only our own abilities. And secondly, to remember that no matter what comes our way, God is our unchanging, solid, rock!

4 Aspects of My Writing Process by Carrie Fancett Pagels

Recently Connilynn Cossette and Charlene Quiram asked me to participate in a blog hop on "Writing Process." Conni was one of the top ten finalists on the Family Fiction contest, in which I recently won in historical genre for my short story "The Quilting Contest." She has also won the Frasier and Genesis contests and writes biblical fiction, represented by Tamela Hancock Murray. Charlene is the author of speculative fiction and YA.

The My Writing Process Blog Tour Instructions:
Step 1: Acknowledge the person (& site) who involved you in the blog tour.
Step 2: Answer these 4 questions about your writing process.
Step 3: Tag another writer or 2 to answer the questions the week after you. Give a one-sentence bio of each, and link to their websites.

1. What are you working on?  I’m working on my novella “The Fruitcake Challenge” which is set at a lumber camp in northern Michigan in 1890. This novella releases in mid September, 2014 and is part of the Christmas Traditions Series headed up by Cynthia Hickey. My cover is the third from the right in the banner, above.

Blurb: When lumberjack Tom Jeffries tells the camp cook Josephine Christy that he’ll marry her if she can make a fruitcake “just like my mother made,” she rises to the occasion. After all, he’s the handsomest, smartest, and strongest axe man her camp-boss father has ever had in his camp—and the cockiest. And Jo intends to bring this lumberjack down a notch or three by refusing his proposal. All the other shanty boys join in to support their cook. The fruitcake wars are on! But as their faith (and letters from
Tom’s mother) brings them together, will Jo have to help him face the possibility that his mother may be dying?

2. How does your writing differ from other’s work in the same genre?  I write fairly complex story lines.  There are other authors out there who have some similarities with that. I pack a fair amount of punch as far as historically accurate information into my stories. Yet I also have somewhat of a sparse writing style—I tend to stay away from overwriting a story.

3. Why do I write? I write because God has called me to do it. And He gives me joy in my work. Writing Christian fiction is hard work. I really don’t know who would work this hard if the Lord hadn’t asked them to do so. I have times when He lifts His hands from my work and I take breaks then and often wonder why I am doing this. For Him. In obedience to His will. I don’t want to sound like I don’t enjoy my writing, because I do—I’ve always loved story telling. But when God’s not on board with it, then the process isn’t enjoyable to me!

4.  How does your writing process work? I am normally inspired by real life people or situations, but not always. Once I have inspiration, I pray about it and I let it “percolate” for months, maybe a year, as I get to know the characters and storyline. Then I write a massive synopsis—last one was 19 pages long. I need to learn to write the brief 1-2 page one before I do the big synopsis. I then take that and do chapter by chapter synopses normally.  I work in the morning, from the synopsis, and typically write new words at a rate of about 2000 to 3000 words per hour on a first draft. I work again after a break, reviewing the first section. I always look over the previous chapter to get me back on track. The farther I go into the story, the more time I have to allow for back checking, but I try to keep this to a minimum, hoping to catch that on the next edit. I had been doing several edits but am hoping to cut that to one intensive self-edit and then use a freelance editor for the third edit. After a while, the author’s eyes just skip over things and I’m often working on several projects at once. On a second edit, my word count drops in half to 1000 to 1500 words edited per hour, so I have to allow myself more time. I may end up doing three hours vs. two hours a day of writing at that point, so I can complete the project in a month. I aim for about 65,000 words or so on the first draft of a story that will go to 90,000, allowing for additional scenes and corrections.

So Fair a Lady (Daughters of His Kingdom)

In this Amber Lynn Perry's debut novel we are taken back in time to when our countrymen were yearning for the freedom they thought they were going to achieve when they left England far behind. The year is 1773 and things in Massachusetts are heating up; there is unrest and murmuring among the Colonists. There are even those who would dare to speak against the Crown; brave men who call themselves the Sons of Liberty.

Eliza Campbell didn't realize how much life was going to change for her and her sister Kitty with her father Robert's deathbed confession of his secret life. Wasn't it enough that he was going to die? Why does she now have to carry the burden of knowing her beloved father was a spy for the Sons of Liberty? Maybe when her handsome beau, British Officer Samuel Martin, comes to visit he can help her figure out what to do.

Thomas Watson is tired of being blackmailed and his family threatened by British Officer Samuel Martin. He is hoping soon to be done with all this spying on the people he has come to respect as true patriots; the Sons of  Liberty. Will this last piece of information be enough to send them on a chase in the wrong direction? Almost too late he realizes what the soldiers' real intent is and he rushes to rescue Eliza and Kitty Campbell. Arriving only minutes before the soldiers, Thomas is able to convince the girls they have to flee for their lives.

When Officer Samuel Martin realizes Eliza and Kitty are missing, he searches frantically to find them. He is determined to have Eliza for his wife. When they meet again will she find out what kind of man Samuel really is before it's too late? Or will Thomas win Eliza's heart before Samuel finds them?

Amber Perry has written a truly amazing story; one filled with exciting tidbits of American history. I was drawn in from the very beginning and things got more exciting from there! I immediately fell in love with Thomas and Eliza. I also enjoyed the friendship between Nathaniel, Thomas' friend and Kitty. I am very eager to see what comes next from the pen of this talented writer, perhaps a story featuring those two!! Thank you Amber for an extremely enjoyable read!

So Fair a Lady’ is a wonderfully rich, historical drama and romance set in 1773 during the few years before the American revolution. This harrowing journey into history that author Amber Perry so skillfully pens, is dripping with intrigue and suspense, and carries a thoroughly satisfying unpredictability from one page to the next!

Robert Campbell has long been a friend of the King’s soldiers, but when a dreadful disease took his life, Robert’s daughter Eliza took solace that he’d left her a personal letter to read. The words she thought would bring comfort however, increased her turmoil instead. Discovering her father was a spy and supporter of the Sons of Liberty has Eliza reeling and feeling very confused, but she is determined to follow through with her father’s advice, and search for the truth. And it is something she must keep from the dashing British officer, Captain Samuel Martin, who is deeply in love with her.

When the handsome press owner, Thomas Watson, suddenly finds himself a marked man by the Redcoats, and that the beautiful Eliza and her sister Kitty are also in grave danger, they flee together through the night. Thomas is intent on protecting the women, but can he safeguard his own heart as well as his life? Captain Samuel Martin is obsessed with Eliza and will stop at nothing to save his woman from her supposed kidnapper. Nor will he give up on his vow to make Thomas pay, not only for taking his beloved but also for his crimes against the Crown.

The reader will fully appreciate the vivid and dramatic depiction of the history within ‘So Fair a Lady’. The characters suited the era to perfection and all were effortlessly brought to life, including a favorite secondary character of mine - the suavely charming patriot Nathaniel Smith with his spirited sense of humor, heroics, and charisma! This engaging story also demonstrates that by embracing and sharing God’s truths-- we too can make a difference in the world. Thank you, Amber Perry, for this immensely memorable and enjoyable trek back in time. Highly recommended!

Amber Perry Interview by Carrie Fancett Pagels

Amber Perry

I had the privilege of making Amber's acquaintance when she inquired about joining Colonial American Christian Writers group, which I moderate. She joined as a contributor to the Colonial Quills blog but has just left us and we wish her well!  She's a young mom and a busy lady!

Amber, welcome to Overcoming With God.  We appreciate your willingness to share your testimony of overcoming with our readers.  It’s such an honor to be here, thank you so much!

Would you tell us about the most difficult thing in your life you have had to overcome, with God’s help? Answer:
One of the greatest trials I’ve experienced in recent years was after the birth of my first daughter. Immediately after she was born I felt a physical change and I couldn’t explain what it was, though I knew something wasn’t right—and it was frightening. I felt empty, lost and was unable to make the kind of bond I thought I should have with my precious daughter. Insomnia kept me up all hours of the night. I had no appetite and debilitating fatigue. The conditions that held me captive made it impossible for me to leave the houseeven to take a quiet walk in the sunshine.

After suffering this way for several weeks, and my symptoms becoming continually worse, I finally discovered I was suffering from extreme postpartum anxiety and depression. Even though I had found the reason for my troubles and despite the help I was receiving, the struggles only worsened and I suffered with it for nearly a year and a half! Some mornings, my mind was so clouded I couldn’t remember what I was supposed to do when I got up—all I knew was that a sweet child needed me and I felt completely incapable of doing what had to be done. Without God, I know I wouldn’t have been able to make it through such a difficult time, but He carried me—sometimes from minute to minute—helping me through the day to complete every task that was required of me until I was finally able to make a full recovery.

Through this experience I developed an unyielding testimony of the enabling power of Christ’s atonement and the grace that truly lifts each one of us in our times of need. I know that God knows each of us, and He is aware of what we are suffering—and I know from this experience that He provides a way for us to find peace, even if we are called to travel a difficult road.

So Fair a Lady
Disability friendliness: Is this latest release available in audio format or do you have any other works available on audio?  Do your e-books have audio capability? Do you have any in large print?  Right now, my book is only available in print and Kindle. However, soon I’m hoping to be able to get an audio version. Since I’m indie publishing and have to do all this myself, it takes a bit longer than it might otherwise, but I will be sure to let you know when it finally become available in other formats!

In this latest work, do you have any topics useful for bibliotherapy, or therapeutic influence through reading about a disorder or situation? This is an excellent question. My book deals with the values of searching for and accepting the truths God has for us. And also coping with deception from others, even when concealing the truth is for someone's benefit.

Deeanne Gist has once again blown me out of the water with another magnificent story set during the exciting time of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Here this beautiful story unfolds and we meet a young woman that has overcome many obstacles to graduate Cum Laude from the University of Michigan with a Doctorate of Medicine. You would think with such prestigious credentials Dr. Billy Jack Tate would have patients beating down her door; but once they find out that Dr. Tate is not a man, most refuse her help.

Scott Hunter, a Texas Ranger had been chosen to be a guard at the World’s Fair, he knows it’s quite a privilege but it’s not the exciting work he is used to as a Ranger. Until he catches a frivolously clad lady entering a basement building backside first. The lady claimed to be the guest speaker of the meeting that day but that was a story that was hard to swallow finding her as he had. Goodness knows he had tried to catch a glimpse of her face but all he caught was a glimpse of a part he knows he shouldn't have seen.

Billy Jack was running late for her speaking engagement and could not believe the abrupt guard wouldn't let her in the building, after being threatened with arrest Billy Jack backed off. When a lady out of the crowd told Billy she could get her in, she never dreamed it would be through a window in the basement and directly in the path of a handsome guard.

The next time Billy and Scott meet is even more embarrassing as Scott is in desperate need of a doctor and when Billy walks in poor Scott would rather die than tell her his problem. This is where the fun begins for these two stubborn, hardworking individuals and where it ends is so beautiful my words would fail to do it justice, so just grab a copy of it and jump right in. You will NOT be disappointed! I love how Deeanne dealt with some of the problems and prejudices of this era. I have enjoyed all of Deeanne’s books and I don’t think I have had a favorite until now. This one had me running the gamut of emotions from laughter to tears. Deeanne is a truly remarkable storyteller!!

A Spirited Romance

I had an absolute blast reading the novel ‘Fair Play', which had me both entertained and spellbound! I went the full emotional gamut from laughing out loud at some of the funniest scenes I've ever read, to experiencing sorrow and shock at the depiction of other grimmer parts. Set in and around Chicago’s World Fair of 1893, we're treated to a photographic excursion by not only the enlightening and descriptive information about the fair, but the charming timeworn snapshots which are displayed in relation to the text.

It is at Columbus Hall we first see the forward-thinking woman doctor Billy Jack Tate being introduced to the masculine and rugged traditionalist Texas Ranger Hunter Scott, in a rather mortifying manner! The tables are soon turned however in a hilarious scene when Hunter is embarrassed beyond all measure before her. An unlikely friendship develops out of their encounters which leads Hunter to seek out Billy’s help when coming across an abandoned baby while on guard duty at the Fair. They team up to find him a place to live, but cannot bear it when his only likely home is in Chicago’s West Side and surrounded by debris and filth, no grass in sight, rats for companions, and saloons and the like being the only places of amusement. Just as troubling are the many street kids and gangs. Together they embark upon a mission to develop a type of playground, birthing America’s Playground Movement. But will the street gangs prove a greater threat than Hunter and Billy had credited them to be?

Hunter and his ‘Billy girl’ as he endearingly calls her, soon find their feelings developing and passion igniting. But with each of them staunchly dedicated to their work, do they even have a future? Billy’s desire to have a successful practice in Chicago majorly conflicts with Hunter’s plans to leave for Texas and get back to working with his fellow rangers as soon as the fair ends. And this conventional Ranger (loved his use of classic Texan catch-phrases!) is not about to let his woman be the wage-earner in 'his' home anyway!

A woman’s place in society isn't the only controversial topic of the era highlighted in 'Fair Play'. Other issues are also exposed, such as the rights of children, the underprivileged, housing conditions, immigrants, the drinking age, etc. On the lighter side, Hunter and Billy, who are both plenty stubborn, deliver an entertaining dialogue peppered with amusing arguments and sassy comebacks that are a real treat to read. The romance is written in true Deeanne Gist style-- wonderfully romantic and passionate. And while some may prefer more Christian elements to an inspirational story, 'Fair Play' is clean and there are many positive messages to take away, including learning how compromise is an essential part of a relationship. An unrushed and satisfying epilogue finishes off this extremely enjoyable book!
