Interview with Author Robin Hatcher

Author Robin Lee Hatcher

Robin Lee Hatcher is the author of over 70 books, including A PROMISE KEPT.

Best-selling novelist Robin Lee Hatcher is known for her heartwarming and emotionally charged stories of faith, courage, and love. She discovered her vocation after many years of reading everything she could put her hands on, including the backs of cereal boxes and ketchup bottles. Winner of the Christy, the RITA, the Carol, the Inspirational Reader’s Choice, and many other awards, Robin is also a recipient of the prestigious RWA Lifetime Achievement Award. She is the author of over 70 novels and novellas with over five million copies in print.

Robin, welcome to Overcoming With God.  We appreciate your willingness to share your testimony of overcoming with our readers.

Would you tell us about the most difficult thing in your life you have had to overcome, with God’s help?
I've had a number of difficult challenges in my lifetime, but I believe the most difficult was learning to be thankful to God in all things, including my marriage to an alcoholic, and trust God with the outcome. Loving an alcoholic or an addict of any kind—whether child, spouse, or parent—is never easy. Discovering how to be supportive without being an enabler takes a lot of soul searching and a lot of trust in God to see us through.

I am amazed at how God can take painful experiences in my life and turn them to good. Because of those painful experiences, I have learned to hold onto the foot of the cross so tightly it’s as if I can feel the splinters in the palms of my hands. I hope that through the words I write I can encourage others to hold onto the cross in the same way.

I consider my life lesson to be this: Nothing, absolutely nothing, enters my life that isn’t caused or allowed by God—filtered first through His loving hands—for the purpose of making me more like Jesus.

And because I believe this life lesson to be true, it allows me to be open and vulnerable—as a woman and as a writer—in order to offer hope and encouragement to others.

Disability friendliness: Is this latest release available in audio format or do you have any other works available on audio?  Do your e-books have audio capability? Do you have any in large print?
Yes, A PROMISE KEPT is available in audio and it will be available in large print. The majority of my Christian fiction releases are available in audio, and I believe all of them are available in large print within three to six months after a new book releases. Many allow the text-to-speech feature.

In this latest work, do you have any topics useful for bibliotherapy, or therapeutic influence through reading about a disorder or situation? Answer:
A PROMISE KEPT is my attempt to glorify the God who answers prayers in His own timing and in unexpected ways. It is my attempt to encourage other believers who trust in God’s promises but don’t see those promises manifested in their lives in the way they expected—or at all—to keep right on trusting in His promises because I know Him to be faithful.

  1. ROBIN, thank you so much for being with us this week! We're so thrilled to have you! I had an alcoholic father and that terribly frightening experience drove me to the foot of the Cross when I was a young girl. God can truly take that which was meant for evil and turn it into good for us.

I so love your books! I'm looking forward to sharing my review of The Forgiving Hour later this week and reading A Promise Kept when I get the chance!

  2. Robin, I enjoyed reading your interview and the candor of the heartache of having an alcoholic husband. I can not say i ever experienced having an alcoholic loved one, however, I understand what a blessing it is to have God bring you through life's difficult times. I would love to win one of your books and I have already liked you on FB and most likely other forums as well (I will check when I am back to my laptop). I especially enjoy FB, because I'm able to meet many new 'friends' a and keep up with friends & family, no matter where I may be. Thanks for the opportunity to win one of your books.

  11. I checked and I either already friended Robin or did just now. But as I mentioned above, I mostly pay attention to FB. I also had the fortune of meeting Robin in person at a book signing event that was part of an author's conference held in Atlanta last summer, and have a picture of myself with her there. ;-) Robin is just as beautiful in person as she is online.

    1. Thanks so much, Amada. I think the cover of The Heart's Pursuit is simply stunning. It was such a different story from my usual historical romances. I hope readers will enjoy the wild race across the Wild West.

  15. Hi, Robin and Carrie!!

Thank you so much - for your honest, touching, interview, Robin!!

I'm thrilled that you are happily re-united with your husband - I can relate to your situation as I was married to an alcoholic husband, also. The truth of the matter is - I was a Christian who had strayed from God, through making some bad decisions, when I married him. After going through years of abuse, and standing by him through two unsuccessful rehab stints - I realized that I had allowed my marriage to make me just as sick, mentally, as my husband, and that my way of living my life wasn't working and only God could heal my husband. I divorced him, and am unaware of his ever being healed or able to control his addictions (he is now deceased) - however, God used my marriage to draw me back to Him, and I AM now whole, healed, and allowing God to direct my every step!!

I would love to read "A Promise Kept"!!
