Return to Shirley Plantation: A Civil War Romance By Carrie Fancett Pagels

"A wonderful novella"
Review by Chris Granville

In a Country with lots of danger, not knowing what might happen next.
Where slavery is a very real thing. Where the Civil War is going on all around them.
Where people get abducted.....
A freed slave not wanting to leave without her niece and nephew.
Where there are dangers all around you. But the neatest part is that it shows that
they knew Our Lord and he was there for them even as evil was all around.

An absolutely great novella that shows how real our Lord is.

Thank you, Chris!

Chris read the six novella compilation, which includes all six of the first stories in the Cry of Freedom Series.  Click here to purchase Volumes 1-6  on Amazon. Click here to purchase Carrie's ebook novella.

  2. ~ Thank you Chris ! I read Christian fiction as I feel it best feeds the mind with character and good thoughts and God says to think on what is just and of good report. I feel that when one of us writes a good novella or novel it truely shows for praise to our God and not for the failing power of men. In war times we need to make it known that God is in control and it was not mere mortal men who won the war. Love Carries Novella and would love to win a print copy of it. We are here to encourage one another !
    Blessings

  3. I've always loved to read and been an avid reader, but I battle serious health complications from a medical error. Reading takes me away from my problems. I become involve with what's happening in the book and where they located. Reading takes me to places I've never been before, into situations that would probably never happen to me, and into history that's so enjoyable and exciting. 6. I read Christian fiction for a few different reasons. The first that comes to mind is the "cleanliness" of the books. (I can't quite think of the word I'm looking for--silly cold--so I'm using "cleanliness".) A couple of months ago, I checked out from the public library a book that sounded really good--it is based on the story of Rapunzel. I didn't realize until I started reading it that it is a secular book. Long story short, the author was pretty explicit in some of her scenes, and I ended up returning the book to the library unfinished. It made me very uncomfortable. Most Christian fiction does not make me feel that way, and I appreciate that.

I absolutely love reading Christian fiction, especially 'historical'! They are so uplifting and encouraging while being extremely entertaining!! Many a time, a great book has taken my mind off health problems by taking me far away to some other place. :)

  9. I love to read anything that has to do with Christian living and history. I love the Civil War era. More families need good Christian lifestyles. I was raised on a life with the Lord but in my teen years went away from it.Carrie's blog and writing lifts me when I need a smile and her writing is heart warming. I was 33 years old and had a family when we chose to go back to church as a family. We gave our family to God for His will in our life not ours. That is what we did and I chose to read and be inspired by others. God bless.

  10. CHRIS thank you for being here with us on OWG and for the great review of CARRIE's novella!

In answer to Carrie's question as to why I read Christian Fiction I think Philippians 4:8 sums it up for me "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Carrie's novella fit nicely with that scripture in my humble opinion! :-)

  11. I love to read Christian fiction because I don't have to worry about the content offending me, I can leave it out and don't have to worry if grandchildren see it.
It uplifts my spirit reading it, I usually always find myself seeing the spiritual side of things through the characters or story line and maybe examining my own thoughts or feelings.
And lastly I believe God can use these books to reach other people .
    Thank you

  14. Hi, Carrie, & Chris!

Great review, Chris! I have the e-book of your novella, Carrie - but would love to have a print copy to keep (I always like to have print copies of the books I enjoy)! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

I read Christian fiction because it entertains, without my having to be concerned about bad language, or too much sex, or violence; because it educates; because I like the story line, &/or author; because the beautiful colors, or synopsis, of the cover - drew me in; but, the most important reason - is because it inspires, & helps me maintain a closer walk with the Lord!

Thank you, Christian fiction authors - for all your hard work, for the love shown to your readers, & for allowing the Lord to use your talent to bless, & inspire us! You are loved, & appreciated!
