Guest Post by Sandi Borgens: Caregiving for Son with Aneurysm

By Sandi Borgens

My life was turned upside down three years ago when my son, who was only 36, had a subarachnoid hemorrhage and aneurysm.  The operation caused him to have a stoke and he was paralyzed on his left side.  He wasn’t supposed to live through the operation but God has a plan for each of us.  He has very little short term memory but WITH GOD all things are possible.  He receives Botox every three months and now he can use his left arm 80% and I have hope that someday soon he will be healed.

I am now a 24/7 caregiver, which brings many challenges each day.  Did I want this job…NO.   I get very tried and someday life seem almost impossible.  No matter what the circumstance, God is always with us to give us strength.  Be encouraged, that while life may deal some hard blows, you can not only survive, but you can be happy and full of love in any situation that comes your way instead of bitterness and resentment, if you cling to God.

I would encourage anyone who is facing a situation that seems impossible to run to God.  God makes Himself known to those who seek His presence.  He shares Himself with all who are hungry for Him.  Everybody has problems.  The devil makes sure that all of us have a stone or two in our lives.  God is available 24 hours a day, he never gets tired, never says He’s too busy.  God can bring good out of even the bleakest circumstances.

You can use the Word of God to help you.  The Word is powerful enough to miraculously heal your hurts and the move the mountains in your life.  All you’ve got to do is believe it!  Remember one thing; you can’t have a testimony until you have a test!  Sometimes I’m tested daily and it hurts.  That’s the part none of us want but it’s what testimonies are made of!  You’ve got an opportunity to use your faith and trample on the devil!

John 10:10 says that it is the devil who comes to steal, kill and destroy.  In that same scripture it tells us that Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly!  Talk to Jesus, He loves You.  Jesus will move the mountains that come against you.  You are never alone.  Use every obstacle as a stepping stone or pulpit to proclaim the Good News to everyone that God sends your way.  To God be the Glory.  Amen!

It is so encouraging to me how you use the word to get you through your difficult circumstances. 2. Thank you SANDI for sharing your story with us all. It really is very encouraging and inspiring. As you said, 'you can't have a testimony without a test', and it is through our tests we gain the ability to truly understand others.
My mother is wasting away before our eyes as she has no appetite. One time after not seeing her for weeks, I was shocked and saddened to see her appearance. I prayed for her but still didn't fully understand why she couldn't force herself to eat for the sake of her health.... until the very next day when God allowed me lose my appetite completely as I was about to eat lunch. Only then did I fully comprehend what she was going through and now approach the problem with her in other ways than to just simply encourage her to try harder to eat.

Thank you God for Sandi, her son and their testimony. And we thank you and give you praise for everything you have already done in their lives! Jesus is our Healer and we pray and thank you for a 100% healing of Sandi's son's left arm and memory. We also pray for an abundance of strength for Sandi and caregivers around the world who give so much to help others. Thank you for your love and presence, In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

Proverbs 8:17 "I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me."

Thank you Sandi and may the Lord bless you and your family!! x

    1. Noela, Faith and Trust in the Lord is knowing who He is. You would not put your faith or trust in someone personally without know who they are and having confidence in that person. God is no different and we must trust Him completely and have faith that He knows exactly what is best for ous life. The scripture you wrote Proverbs 8:17 was what I needed to hear today. Thank you dear Noela. Proverbs 3: 5-6 says Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths. You have done this Noela
God is using you in a big way. Happy New Years.

  3. SANDI, thank you for being with us On Overcoming With God, and that sounds like something you practice doing daily in your life. Your testimony uplifted me, especially this morning, b/c it seems as though I barely get through one thing and here comes another! I love your sentence that Jesus will move all the mountains that come against you!

Heavenly Father, we ask you to give Sandi supernatural strength from above, and grant complete healing to her precious son. Touch his arm and his memory, dear Lord, and give him full restoration of both. We thank you for sparing his life, and for all that you are going to do in his life in the future! Ane we pray for all caregivers today -- may they be strengthened and their loved ones find healing in the mighty name of Jesus...amen!

    1. Diana, Prayer is so very important to God and today you took the time to pray for me and my son who is paralyzed on his left side due to the aneurysm. His arm has been healed 80% but I know God isn't finished with Rodd. His leg and foot needs a touch of God's hands. John 16: 23, 24 says Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. Thank you for reading my testimony Diana. God bless you and Happy New Years.

    2. Sandi, I was blessed by a wonderful book that our mutual friend, Julie, gifted me with "The Well" and it reinforces for me that God is first and primary. And that when we walk in obedience to Him, we will bless others. So it is only through His Holy Spirit that I can do anything--and I give God the glory. Thank you and may God bless you!

  7. Hi Sandy would love to read your book. I to have to take care of someone but it is my mother. It is very trying at times and hard to deal with. Wouldn't be if she was not so mean to me. Says very hateful things to me. sometimes I just want to give up.

    1. DIANA, I'm sure what you are going through is much more difficult than any of us realize. Trying to help ANYONE is difficult at best, but when that person is being cruel to you back, it is so hurtful! The Bible says be ye not weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap -- if we faint not. Plus "DIANA'S" don't give up -- never, ever! LOL I'm going to be praying for God to give you HIS strength to endure, DIANA!!

    3. Hi Diana, My precious sister in the Lord. I understand completely what you are saying because there isn't a day in my life that I don't get screamed at about something. Please God give Diana wisdom and understanding to rise above this during this stressful time. I don't believe anyone understands what is means to be a 24/7 caregiver. I for sure didn't BUT with God ALL things are possible for those who believe. God alone is designed to carry your burdens as you were never intended to play that role, and as you cast them on Him, freedom will come to your mind and your soul. God is a good God who cares for you and so do I Diana. I'm always here for you. Happy New Years

  8. Hi Sandi, I understand about being a 24/7 caregiver, I was for my mom for atleast 9 years and the last year was the toughest because she was so very sick... I would feel overwhelmed and then turn to God to guide me and help me to do the right things, staying awake when exhaustion was taking over...

Heavenly Father, please give Sandi strength to get through every day and the knowledge to know when to ask for the help we all sometimes need. Help her get her son through every day with as little pain and as much healing as possible.. I thank you for keeping Sandi and her son under your loving care and everyday I will send you thanks for this myself.. I worship and I give you thanks Lord, as you are the guiding light in my life.. In Jesus's name I pray.. Amen

    2. Rosemary, That was anointed. Thank you very much for taking the time to bless me. Being a care giver is the toughest job I've ever had in my life. So many unexpected challenges each day and never enough time to get every thing completed. Sometimes I believe challenges are brought to make us stronger, for without them there would not be the growth God desires. God wants to elevate you and bring you up higher. Just remember God is always right by your side. You can trust Him for he is the Master Designer, and always, always your loving guide.
God bless you Rosemary, Hugs, Sandi Borgens

  9. Oh, Sandi, as always, your unconditional obedience to God brings tears to my eyes and hope to my soul that no matter what, we are never alone. His love and strength gird us every day of our lives in every situation if we only receive it such as you have.

You have been an inspiration to me from the first moment I met you, my friend, all those many years ago at Maritz, and you continue to be one of the greatest inspirations in my life. Your name has been on my prayer list for many years now, and like you, I look forward to the day -- and soon, I hope -- when healing comes to your precious son and God's ultimate blessings to you.

    Love you!!

Happy NEW YEAR to everyone and, Carrie -- finished the book, loved it and will contact you soon!!

    3. Precious Julie,
When God blessed me with your friendship many years ago you have been an example for me to follow each day since. Your encouragement, beautiful personality and smile shines brightly for God. It draws people to Him. It shows in each book you write. Praying for Rodd and myself is an unselfish act of kindness and I want to say Thank you. Your book A Light in the Window should be a movie because it is so moving. I love this book!
Lord, I thank YOU for all YOU do for me. I thank YOU for Your mercy, kindness and grace. I thank you for friendships I made because of my precious friend. Please Lord, help me not to grumble or complain but to keep my eyes on You. Place within me a deep desire to serve You and see things like you see them. Thank you Lord for never giving up on us, and I will trust You to work out each issue and surrender each prayer to your will and your plan. May God's hand rest on you in 2013 and give you supernatural inspiration to write. You are loved by God and me.
      Love & Hugs,
      Sandi

  11. Jesus taught the most perfect prayer -
"Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

My feeble prayer - "Father, You hold all things in your hands and I pray that your sovereign will be accepted in the life of Sandi and her son. I know a small part of the road she travels and the toll it can take. I ask that you give her inordinate amounts of strength and patience, love and compassion, determination and rest. I ask that you provide each need in the most powerful and obvious way, that others would see through her faith in you that you are indeed a God who loves and cherishes his children and cares for them in the midst of trials. Thank you for Sandi's strong testimony and for her willingness to encourage others to come to you in surrender to your will. May they continue to see blessings when others see only hardships. In Jesus' name, Amen"

I have been amazed and humbled by the precious friendships that have come from tragedy this past year. Praising the Lord in all things!
